Anyone have both a S1k and a Cros/Rem Genesis 1000?
« on: September 25, 2006, 12:43:12 PM »
I was considering getting a Genesis 1000 (really hooked on the thumbhole type stock) and was wondering how they compare, such as accuracy, durability, etc., etc.  Thanks.

I've got 3 S1K's - and one Benjamin Legacy 1000. The B-L has the same action as the Genesis, so my input might be useful.

No 2 ways about it, the S1K action is superior in just about every respect. The BL action is heavier, harsher, recoils more, and seems to generate a little less power than the Gamo. The factory sight on the S1K is very usable, the one on the BL is a joke. The trigger on the BL is pretty bad, although it IS a true 2-stage and can be improved quite a bit with a lighter trigger spring.

In all honesty, I did get a lemon BL - but even after getting it straightened out with a new compression tube, piston, seal, barrel, mainspring, and beefing up the breach lockup spring, it's still inferior to the Gamo overall.

The only thing nice about it is Crosman's parts support, which is very good. But in my experience even the Quest is a better rifle.

Thanks for your input Vince.  I've read that there is a tune kit available for these guns (Legacy/Genesis) but it doesn't sound promising.  I think you might have scared me away from the idea now. Thanks again, I appreciate your candor.

I own a Genesis with the macarri tune kit in it and it's not that bad of a rifle. The tune kit settles down the rifle a bunch, and it shoots smoothly and quiet with the kit.

The rifle has a couple of problems but easy to fix. The barrel lockup is a little weak and the barrel pivot screw came lose a couple of times til lock-tite fixed that. I shimmed the  detent spring and the barrel lockup is now just fine.

I understand the they have fixed the pivot screw and the lockup on the latest ones, mine is one of the first that came out.

The Genesis  rifle is just as accurate as any of my other break barrels so there is no problem there. The scope that came on mine is a decent scope and has AO it looks like a BSA scope, mine went haywire after six months ,it got fuzzy after every shot and required readjusting the AO. I sent the scope back  and they sent me a new scope within 10 days. Great warranty service I would say.
They don't come with iron sights just a scope. The trigger is a little stiff but has worn in and not bad now.
It shoots CPL's great, just under  1 1/2 inch groups at 50 yds. Crono's with CPL's at a 875 avg with the JM kit, was faster stock but to harsh.

If you look at the hunting gate you will see that it has no proplem with knocking off Racoons at 25 yds, I took out two Racoons with this rifle last month both at over 25 yards.

After the work you had done to the Genesis - how does it perform next to an out-of-the-box S1K?

The rifle is just as accurate as the gamo but a little bit more noise from the Genesis. The genesis likes CP's and the Gamo's like Superdomes or FTS's

Muzzle noise not internal noise, it has been made quieter by me, and I do shoot it alot.

check then out.

There are still  more that won't fit on that wall.

Two more Shadows and a pair of Winchester 1000SB's, I forgot about the B-3's 2 of them also.
Of course a couple of 760's, a .20 benji pump, the Daisy 880 for backyard chipmunks.
I think there is more laying around but can't rember what.
