CFX gets it's feet wet, literally.
« on: June 29, 2008, 08:32:39 AM »
I was waiting for nutters but they seem to have taken the day off. I was shooting targets at 20 yards when two pigeons landed about 13 yards behind my bull's eye. Seemed like I felt the CFX tugging on me. They were heading for the bird seed I had laid down to bait the squirrels in. So I grabbed the underlever and pulled it back slowly. I then grabbed one of the crosman premiere hollow points I had already pre sorted by hand earlier and loaded it in the breach. One of the pigeons was following the other so I figured the one getting followed was the female. I laid a bead on the female. Since this was my first shot at this range, I put the female between the center cross hair and the 1st mil dot below center. Then I unleashed the CFX. Hit her at the top of the back on her wing joint (should laid the bead direct center, but I know next time). The female was doing cartwheels. The male flew three feet two the left, stayed for 5 seconds, then headed off for a new mate. So I walked up to the female and finished her off. Sorry I didn't take a nature shot, but the thunderstorms been off and on all day and before I could grab the camera it started drizzling and you know the CFX likes to stay dry. So this shot is taken under patio.

Excellent shot stormXT.....breaking in the CFX with a kill.  Way to go.....   Great recounting of the shoot, very nice gun and pic.

I'll answer Timmyj's question......I would guess the distance would be around 33 yards.....(20 yard target...and 13 yards beyond it).

Now I feel really stupid, I did not see that his target was at 20 yrds,, all I remembered was the vermin was 13 yrds beond!!LOL!! If I had I may have said something to the effect of: If you are sighted in @ 20 yrds. your POI. may accually be a tad high at 33 yrds (very little) and back dead on around 35 or so, give or take. GEEEEZZZZEEEE I need to read closer!!LOL!! Tim.

It was about 33 yards. I should have aimed dead on but I wasn't sure about the POI, so I raised it up a tad. I should have had faith in her, but  we just met last night. I plan on shooting at different yardage and making me a chart to go by....at least until me and the CFX get to know each other a little better. Now to give her a name.........

Good shooting!
I wish I had some pigeons around here.  I have a pair of mourning doves that nest in one of my trees for many years now but I leave them alone.  Those 2 are inseperable.  All the pigeons hang out about 1/4mi. down the road on some power lines and street poles but never visit my back yard.  Maybe if I put out some pigeon feed or bird seed they 'll come?
