Benjamin discovery's
« on: August 21, 2008, 10:00:29 AM »
I have been collecting some hollow point pellets to study and see which ones have the best results on the vermin around my house.. Well I went to Academy today and they had some.. I bought a tin and have ordered the predators and the crow magnums online..  has anyone shot these Discovery's. the hole for the hollow point looks small and seems that it would not expand very well..
The crow mags look  good, but i don't have them in hand yet.  I can just imagine what the predators will be like...
 Expensive tho..

I believe the Benji pells are the same as Crosman Premier Hp, and if they are, they dont expand much at all compared to Destroyers, Cromags, etc.

I've been running the Disco pellet's through both my .177 and .22's great pattern's out to 30yrd's. I wanted to kill paper first to check out their accuracy before planting em into live one's and I'm satisfied enough to start hunting with them. As we know though every baby is different in what kind of lead that she like's to eat. The .177's are 10.5 grain which is heavy for springer's and may be hard on it's internal's so I use em for my CO2's. Ed

Inside 30 Yards,....forget expansion. If the shot is placed well, you could hit them with a cheapo crosman copper-head 'pointed pellet', and get the desired results (OK, That may be stretching it a bit?!?!?!?) . You've got the juice Johnny, let them rip. I've shot a squirrel at 25 yards with a Diana 34,... not much expansion,...yet they got the kill, and the critter's in the freezer for "crock-pot" season. Cro's and Pred's are great!! Preds are boarder line for springers, and Cro's are best left to .177 cals ( way too heavy for .22 springers!!! as per CDT,... PCP's/Pumpers only)....but the Discos (CPHP's) will  "git er done"!! Trust me, the Disco Pell's  are as good as they get!!! tjk

THATS GOOD INFO GUYS!!! Thanks..    I got the bait out as we speek and will try them tonight.
Those bastages just keep getting up and running off... I need a killer pellet for them.. so far my furthest shot has been 20 ft.     Its not like i'm going to lose a bunch of accuracy in that distance, just need knockdown power till i can reload...

20 feet!!!!????!!! At that range, are you useing a scope???? If so, aim high !!!!! Other-wise your shooting way low with the glass!!!! No wonder they're running off,...they hear 'snaps' and start dancing . Remember,  if you're using a scope, it's set over and above  the barrel, so  if you've got high or medium rings/mounts, you've got to compensape that difference at ranges under 33 feet (10 meters/11 yards). You should be decapitating them at 20 feet!!!!!If you can, try getting "see-through" mounts for close up shots using the 'irons'. I expect  some awesome "killer pix" real soon!!!! LOL's  Now sic em boy!!!! tjk

speaking of wadcutters....
« Reply #9 on: August 21, 2008, 08:35:24 PM »

Walmart has these really cheap Daisy Precision Max .22 wadcutters for like...3 or 4 bucks a tin. They shoot really well in some of my guns and I snatched up several thousand of them before the price goes up. Seems as others feel the same way because Walmart can never keep them in stock. So if you see some...buy a tin...what the heck...if they shoot good for ya, then you got yourself some killer wadcutters and they are cheap too!!! A few other guys on this forum have found them to be a very good economical wadcutter.

I figure at 20ft you can't go wrong with them. They'd put a nice hurtin' on them Texas Ratties...while yer waitin' for the ultimate pellet...The Predator!!! Oh man, wait till you see what those pellets do...it is awesome!!!

P.S. My Whisper .22 loves those DPMwads. Nice fit into the breech/barrel. A very good economical pellet with close range stopping power. RATS GO DOWN!!!
