CFX .177 Walther Barrel conversion
« on: October 22, 2006, 11:44:21 AM »
Worked on it for 2 days now and got it done this afternoon. The .177 Walther choked barrel was easier to machine and install than the S1k. once you get original barrel free it's a snap.
I assembled it with one of my kits using a Crossman spring and seal with my bearing thrust setup.

I used my own spring tar and lubes and was very satisfied with the results. After 20 or so heavy pellets I ran it over the crony just for grins.

With  FTS's 8.9 grs it hit an average of 896 fps and average deviation of 8.45, with CPL's it was an average of 916 fps with an average deviation of 7.68.

This looks like it's going to be a super rifle, I zeroed it in at 15 yards did a 7 shot cloverleaf one hole group off the rest. Took it out to 50 yards and shot it at the same scope setting and aim point, it hit the center bull with a 7 shot group under 3/4  inch with one flyer. I LIKE IT!!
Premium Choked barrels  and FTS's do make a difference...

It got to dark to shoot so will test further tomorrow it the wind is not to bad. The way the barrel is secured in the CFX I think I might just make up a .20 barrel for it, you can change the barrel with out even taking the stock off because the set screw for the barrel in the bottom of the left stock screw.  I could have a CFX with three barrels .177 .20 and a .22 it would be the best of the calibers for what I am shoot with it.

Hey Rich, what would it cost to do a 3 barrel set?  How bout a 4 barrel set, add a .25 as well.  Do you ever shoot JSB Exacts, I'd be interested in chrony numbers/deviation with them, especially with the match barrel.  Anyway, sounds like too much fun, keep us posted on the results.

The pellets are Beeman Field and Target Specials, same as the ones for the 20 barrels but .177 cal. and are 8.9 grs,   the Beeman web site says they are 9.2 grs but they really weight 8.9 grs

The others are Crossman Premier round nose  7.9 gr.

If the weather is not to bad I am going to shoot the heck out of it today to see what it can do.
I wnat to try a few other types of pellets in the rifle like superdomes and some jsb pellets.

I'll post some tatgets later on.
