Weekends Take!
« on: October 26, 2008, 12:39:27 PM »

Howdy fellow GTA Members! Had an interesting weekend of hunting. To start with, it wa kinda nasty outside this past week, so I decided to do some target practice in the house. In doing so, I set the zooms down real low, and the AO' to their lowest settings too. Got some nice groups at such close range. Saturday I took the little one to G-parents house and decided to see what I could get in their urban setting. Took a few shots at one BT, and kept missing for some reason. BT's all over the place and I can't nail not a one of them?!?!?? WTH is going on????? Finally, before leaving for home, I realized the zoom wasn't where I usually set it at 25 yards,....around #7 is where I keep it most of the time. Dad and I are hanging out around the back yard when all of a sudden here's this fella sitting face foreward chewin on a pecan atop a wooden fence in the nieghbors yard. Seniora 0035 was ready this time. Put the cross-hairs between the eyes and sent that CroMag home. Boy i thought to myself, Ed would have been proud of that shot!Retrieved my lone BT of the morning and headed home.Later that afternoon, Pete and I hit the woods for somerural BT's. Decided to take the Sierra this time, and sure enough, took a shot at two rascals and realizedI hadn't reset my scope to my normal range. That's two missed opportunities, but a lesson learned. So I decided to solo it for a while and found anotherBT"honey hole". I even walked up on a very youngnutter, but couldn't bring myself to shooting it. Figured I'd let it live. It just circled around the tree a few times checking me out. probably never saw a human before!!!Kept stalking deeper into the woods and took three more before sunset. We had stew tonight!!! tjk

I missed a BT yesterday morning due to a combination of caffeine deprivation and incorrect AO setting. Yet, I just can't seem to miss with my R1 and cheap Gamo 4x32 with fixed objective.
I hate when I miss one, especially when the Mrs is watching. She just looks at me funny and comments about how she and her cousin used to kill squirrels with cheap Crosman 760s and no scopes. She doesn't understand the complexities of springer recoil and it's effect on accuracy. Nor does she understand my inability to shoot with pinpoint accuracy without a certain level of caffeine in my veins. I can shoot circles around her with a springer, but she's deadly with a pneumatic or CO2. Makin' me look bad, I tells ya.

Nice take, tjk! That's showing them what they're made of (meat)! With that pretty little rifle and theschlumbergeras (looked like fuchsia for a minute) it is just a Thanksgiving centerpiece. Nice shooting.

Thanks guys, I reckon they're at attention Harry,......kinda got stiff,.....and they're dead for sure, but at ease,....it could go either way depending on how you look at it. I wish it were an R9, but it's a "Chi-clone" of a clone of an R9 I believe! LOL's She's a tempramental rifle, but  doesn't usually disappoint when it counts. tjk

Thanks Ed!! Stanley, the Sierra-Pro was TT'd by CDT (Bob) before he retired this year. The scope is the stock one it came with, and actually pretty decent. I did buy an adjustable one piece mount (Beeman 5039/Sports Match). I've got a custom MB coming from Bro' Ralph/RCnMO to finish off this set-up. She's a very smooth cocking and shooting rifle. Way Way better than factory!!! But she insists on being held everyday, and if you go a week without shooting her, you'll know it. It's really weird. tjk

Mine is completely stock....and I also like the scope alot....actually it`s pretty solid and clear.  And yeah, mine is finicky as hell....especially without a tune....   :o(  ....unfortunately I can`t find a tuner near me.....don`t even know if there`s any tuners in Canada!!!!!!  If and when something breaks....I`ll open her up and attempt the repair and a tune.
