Got em atlast
« on: November 01, 2008, 04:08:29 AM »
I spent the morning at Squirrel City and they were playing hide and seek with me all morning. I would set up for a shot and they would slip into the leafy cover of the tree's so I headed for one tree where I BIG buck hung out every morning. Every time that I would move within thirty yards of him he would move to the other side of the tree and VANISH! AND I MEAN VANISH!. I would move in on the tree and cover every angle but he was like Houdini, he didn't come down it or jump to another hmmmmm. Again today there he sat sunning himself and knowing that he would see me I just keep moving down the game trail towards the tree and watched as he moved around to the other side and out of sight. I then began to silently slither through the brush thirty yard's out making a wide circle around to the other side and up to and behind a big ol oak tree. At that moment I noticed something that I had missed before and shouldn't of :( on the other side of his tree and thirty feet up was a small hollowed out KNOT HOLE!. I got him now and it was just a waiting game so I settled down next to the oak and waited for Houdini to appear. Fifteen minutes later my wait was rewarded as he stuck his head out of the hole and did a scan for any danger then climbed out and returned to his sunny resting spot. I didn't even get up but in a kneeling position raised up another one of my fine ladies, the B26-2 and locked the crosshairs onto his sweetspot. He didn't even see it coming as the CPH finds it's mark and he lifelessly falls to the leafy covered floor without as much as a twitch. I got you at last I thought to myself as I got up and headed for my long awaited harvest which ended up taking one twenty six yards out from me and about twenty feet up since his branch was a drop from his hideaway . I was pumped as I grabbed a pic for you guy's and dressed him out, I knew that it was just a matter of time before I got em.:) Ed

Ed:
Great hunting, great shooting.  The hide and seek game is very familiar to me, but I always seem to be unsuccessful in making any stealthy moves to flank 'em with so many dry leaves on the ground.

Hey Ed another fine hunting story....and especially like the way you "lead" us on how you stalked that nutter.  Excellent job.  Great pic and gun you've got there.  Btw, did you take abit off the comb of that B26-2?  It doesn't seem as high as some others I've seen.  Great looking thumb-hole stock on her.....

Beer and airguns, I'll just head south and help ya drink em and shoot em.
Ed, congrats. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that you like that B26-2. So, can that stock be made ambidextrous? Or would you have to carve too much off it and weaken it too much?
I'd like to get one from Mike M but don't know if I can make it work for me, or should I just get a B26 with the sporter stock.
Fat tree weasel there.  I had one like that last weekend. It would come within 10 yds of me but wouldn't stop moving long enough for me to take a shot. Waited for what felt like eternity before it stopped for maybe 2 seconds which was 1 second longer than it took me to line up, commit myself to it, and pull the Rekord. Head shot with a .177 Crow Magnum that ended up lodging in it's right elbow. Expanded from .177 to .244. Can't complain. The feeling is indescribable when you win the waiting game with your quarry.

Thanks guy's and I do walk and stalk but you will be amazed at the amount of varmint's will get out and continue their quest for food. I always look for natural blinds/hides to holdup in , checking the tree's and the forest floor. Many a rabbit has fallen pray to me this way.:) Stanley the comb is untouched, I couldn't bring myself to cut it since it looked so good. Jay I think taking more timber away from the grip will weaken it.:( I've heard of several B26-2's that member's received and the grip was already cracked and . I pamper her when I'm out hunting and handling her oh by the way.........I'm a lefty and have adapted myself to holding her as you can see be my hunt's.:) They do need to make more stocks for us lefties though but I always end up modding myself.:) Ed

I may just get the sporter stock. Now, I'm considering a B28 .22 from Mike M. I don't know which of the 2 I'd rather have.
