Picked up my self defense weapons today.
« on: November 10, 2008, 09:37:46 AM »

I wanted to buy a couple of weapons before we lose our rights to buy them.. Picked up a couple of economy pieces. I only plan on test firing them once before the warranty period is up. Then will place them in strategic locations in order to access them real fast in case someone comes uninvited to visit me...:) Anyway I got off real cheap with a Rossi 38 special, 5 shot revolver that shouldneed very little maintenance, and a Remington 870, 7, shot pump shotgun at 38" long. Honestlyhope I never have to shoot them once I have test fired them.

"Honestly hope I never have to shoot them once I have test fired them."

Where's the fun in that?

Take them to a range and practice shooting them. Learn how they shoot and what makes them tick. Get to know them so IF you do need to use them for defense you'll know how.

Hoping you don't have to use them in anger, I can agree with that.

Congratulations Buddy !

It's good to know your protected ! Bad people don't care how nice you are, they take it as a sign of weakness, now won't they be surprised :)

Like you I have done enough hunting in S.E.Asia to last me a lifetime, but we still need to protect and defend our selves and our homes. If nothing threatens me or mine, they can live forever !

Take care buddy, be safe !

It's better to have it and not need it than it is to need it and not have it

Ya Mike, and I will keep it loaded and not fear getting a jammed bullet. No need for a automatic.

Thanks Bill

Ouch! That seemed like a subtle dig Gene

I can shoot my Beretta rapid fire clip after clip with nary a jam. Plus the de-cocker on the Beretta is super safe, revolvers scare me.

It's hard to predict what you will "need", see previous proverb

No not really Todd. The fact is I will have the revolver loaded all the time. If I needed to use it a year from now I know I can pull the trigger and it will fire. With the automatics, if I left the clip loaded the spring would weaken after time. Then a possiblility of the gun jamming. I have nothing personal against the automatics but it just seemed that the old mechanical  revolver would serve my purpose. No Dig intended.

You have it right Gene,

A revolver is a mans best friend, if you can't hit your target with six rounds, a semi-automatic pistol won't do you much good !

I have many semi-autos, for target, and personal carry, but for home defence, ya can't beat a revolver :) and a 12 gage shotgun !

Gene and Bill, I feel the same way y'all do about revolvers vs. autos. My revolver (along with a shotgun) is for self defense in my home and my autos are primarily for fun. In addition, my wife is more comfortable using the revolver. Very important if I’m not home or if I’m incapacitated. However, I do carry a small .380 auto loaded with Hydra-Shoks when concealment is required. Like you, I hope I never have to use them.

I'll add onto Big Bill's comment in a good way.

For home defense you can't beat a .410 revolver.
.22 Discovery 4x16x40 Centerpoint
.22 Beeman SS1000 4x16x56 Centerpoint
.22 2250XT 6x32 Centerpoint
.22 Custom 2240 Tasco Red-Dot w/bling

And various other pistols too
