5 Minute Powerline Hunt
« on: November 11, 2008, 12:51:37 PM »
My entire day today was eaten up with appointments,  shopping with the wife, and picking up all the leaves in my yard before tomorrows rain hits so getting in a hunt, even a short one, was not an option, at least so I thought :)    I finally finished with the leaves at 4pm and even though it was really to late to head out on a hunt I just had to get away for a little while so I decided to take a ride to the duck farm.  I like sitting in my truck watching the sun set and watching the wild ducks gliding in and dropping down into the freshwater ponds on the farm as the sun goes down.  I had the .177 powerline propped up in a corner in the living room so I just grabbed it and threw it in the truck.  Ya never know what critter you might see on the farm.   Figured maybe I'd see a raccoon trying to steal a duck dinner.....

The back entrance to the farm is a dirt road bordered by thick woods and briars on both sides.  As I slowly drove down the dirt road I saw a squirrel run across the road about 50 yards ahead of me.  As I approached the area where the squirrel crossed the road I stopped the truck and scanned the ground and trees.   There he was,,,, he was about 25 yards up in this large dead tree just sitting on a branch.  I guess he thought I didn't see him cause he just sat there.  I quickly got out of the truck, loaded the powerline with a Tomahawk, aimed and let the pellet fly.  Every time I hit a squirrel with this powerline I am impressed with it's power,,,, and this shot was no different.   The pellet slammed home with a loud "THWACK", hitting the nutter just behind the left ear.  At the pellets impact the squirrel jumped straight up off the branch and did a full back flip.  After he did the back flip he just fell straight down and slammed into the ground at the base of the tree.  I reloaded and approached but he didn't even twitch.  This powerline continues to impress me with the way it nails nutters  !!

I grabbed my kill, got back in the truck and headed for home as it was starting to get dark.  Had my daughter take a couple of pics before gettin him ready for the freezer  :)

That was the quickest hunt I've had in quite some time......

Jeff,,,,,you see,,,I was getting ready to give you the SS but the way that Powerline is taking those tree rats down it would be an insult to hand the SS over to you...,,,,BTW,,Who is the guy holding that kill & standing on my buddy Jeffs' lawn,,,,,,,,,,,where were you when the pic was being taken? I know,,,you mixed in with trees with all your camo on...LOL......Nice shooting!!!

I say we should have a "Quick hunt" contest between Ed and Jeff......the moment the hunter picks up the airgun from the vehicle the clock starts.....we need to see who can take out a critter with the least amount of time.  Honor system of course....
Gamo: Expotec .177 + Big Cat .177 + Viper .177 + Whisper .177, Hammerli Titan .177, Diana model 24 .177, RWS-Diana P5 Magnum pistol .177, Crosman: G1 Extreme .177 + Storm XT .177 + Sierra Pro .177 + 1377 pistol .177, Air Arms S410SL .22, BSA Scorpion T10 .22, FX Cyclone .177, Remington Air Master 77 .177 + BB\'s,

Lol I would lose hehehe, I would get so involved in the hunt as I always do and lose track of time as I take one nutter then look for another. :)
