Timmy is back!!
« Reply #15 on: December 15, 2008, 04:22:33 PM »
Hey there buddy!  You 're alive!!  heheh  I was starting to get worried and was looking for your phone# today when they called me in early so I didn't have time.  Glad you 're back!

Did you see my 1st coon from about 9-10 days ago?  It was really FAT!  had some nice colors on it too.  I knew if you disappeared for a while I 'd catch up to you with my night snipping :-)  Still have not been able to spot a fox.  So that record belongs to you with 2 fox kills :)   I know the foxes are out there cause I see them down the road a few blocks away at night when I come home late from work but they won't "bite".  They are too smart for that.. or at least the foxes around here are smart.  I don't know about the ones in North Carolina.. I think they 'll walk right up to your muzzle down there and stare down the bore (doh!) :-)  Just kidding buddy, glad you 're back!

PS.
You missed my misadventures with a stinky skunk I made the bad decision to shoot  :)  I can still smell it a little in the back yard and in my car! hehehe

Brent:
I 'm not making the same mistake again!!  No way..  I don't care if they 're albino, purple or pink!  I 'm never shooting another skunk on my property ever again!  Maybe I 'll trap them and send them to you to shoot.. how is that?  but you 'll have to shoot it right by your fence under the squirrel feeders so you can pretend you are shooting at a huge squirrel :)  I know you miss them a lot.. I 'm in the same boat - shot too many of them like you did  :(
Make a hole in your fence, and start baiting for night critters like the rest of us :-)

Dang Harry...that`s 2 racoons in about a week and a half.  That Condor and your shooting`s pounding them into never never land.  I haven`t seen any tracks on the snow in my backyard....I think the squirrels/cats (not that I`m shooting them!!!)/and that fat racoon is hibernating....or at least waiting for abit warmer weather.

Great shooting.  While there seems to be no shortage of tree rats (and no rarity of bunnies) in suburbia SC,  have not, as yet been able to draw a bead on one of those masked varmints (or and opossum, or, thankfully, a skunk).  Looks like a clean kill from a well placed shot.  Surprising he got back up.  Too bad you couldn't score the double.  Please be careful handling and disposing of that raccoon, though.  Almost all carry rabies and you don't want them taking any post-mortem revenge on you or any of your or your neighbors pets.

I'm not so sure that one can generally assert that "almost all" racoons carry rabies.  Rabies, particularly in warmer climates, can be common in Racoons and other animals such as, but not limited to, Foxes, Skunks, Opossums, Bobcats, Lynxes, etc.

The injunction to wear gloves, and be careful when cleaning or handling *all* wild game is reasonable and prudent.  If you are going to eat it, you should clean it carefully,  handle it wisely, and ensure cleanliness during all steps in that process.  If you are concerned about Rabies or any of the myriad of other diseases that game *can* carry, such as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Lyme disease, Hemorrhagic Fever, and a number of other diseases you can find in all manner of critters, you should contact your local county agricultural agent.  He/She will be able to tell you what you should worry about in your area.

Rabies in racoons is *most* common in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New England.  In most other areas the symptoms which are commonly attributed to Rabies in racoons is actually a manifestation of canine distemper.

Tim I 'd love to do a NY meet and have you come up.  We 'll take you out to the big city for some beer and steak or whatever else cousine you like..  or Jeff can cook us up some rabbits or whatever else we happen to shoot  :)  Maybe I 'll taste G-hog for the first time if it's in the spring.

So what's going on?  Did the wife finally kick you out or are you in hiding?  :-)  You 're at J's, and you might call from Gene's..  It sounds like you 're living out of a suitcase, hehehe.  I hope all 's well buddy.  Congrats on the 3d fox!!  There is no catching up to you now!  I would have loved to see a pic of a gray fox.  I don't think I 've ever seen one, only red fox.

So, what recipe will it be?  It seems BBQ is popular.  I had some when I was a kid.  As I remember, it was quite good.  It was a long time ago.

Tim:  I almost forgot.  You can't miss the skunk adventure:  Click on this link.  It gave many people a good laugh :-)

Josh:
Have not eaten it yet.  My wife does not allow wild/dead animals in the house.. she freaks out.  I dropped it off at my neighbor's on Sunday after I saw his wife's car missing from the driveway.  His wife can be difficult too and she does not like me dropping off all this critters I shoot at her house.  They have a freezer downstairs where my neighbor hides "my" kills and when his wife is away he 'll usually cook them up and call me over when noone is around.  Sometimes I 'm not around either and he 'll eat one of my squirrels by himself :(  He 's a pretty good cook but uses a lot of grease & fries the hek out of them.  I think he 's going to try a stew this time because I asked him.. we 'll see.  I think he wants me to go food shopping to get him potatos & other veggies/ingredients.  This coming Saturday we will probably be dining coon when his wife & kids go to his in-laws for a few hours.  She (his wife) mainly doesn't want her kids seeing dead animals she told me..  I don't she and I get along very well :)  Wives.. life would be some much simpler without them.. hehehe.
