It's about time
« on: December 29, 2008, 06:42:57 AM »
:) that the crazy weather gave me a break with the cloud's parting to reveal a beautiful sun. I was ready and waiting this morning and since I had been punching paper with the B26 Sporter I put her in the softcase and headed out to the wood's that run along the back of my place. The pellet of choice today would be the CPHP and dressed in full camo I headed for the stick's. All was still covered in last night's frost and nothing was moving yet so I silently worked my way down a game trail and to my wood pile and felt that this would be a good local to hold up. I could feel the sun warming my face just alittle so I knew that the critter's would be up and moving about looking for breakfast and sure enough I spotted something working it's way through the limb's out past forty yards. I hunkered myself down behind the stack of wood and watched him work his way back and forth from limb to limb but then just froze on a limb at about twenty five yards out and started to bark at something below him?. I didn't know what alarmed him but while he was focused on the distraction below him I lifted myself to a knee and placed the crosshairs on a beauty of a side profile. Stay put fella I thought as I focused on that little spot on his head, safety off and feeling the moment I sent the HP away. THWACK! and then I watched through the scope as he fell abruptly from his post but I lost sight of him behind brush and fallen limb's. I got to my feet and was already headed for his last location, I didn't know what had spooked him and I didn't want another critter getting my meal. :o  :) Out of nowhere here come's a white poodle running down the game trail but then spotted me and then made an abrupt right and out through the brush then out of sight. Now I know what had the nutter all worked up, a perfect distraction hehehe someone's dog was loose and out for a morning stroll and probably freaked when the squirrel dropped from the tree in attack mode lol. I continued down the trail and found my harvest right at the base of the tree with a nice HP hole in his fusebox  and it was still early but I knew with the pooch running around that the squirrels would be on high alert. I grabbed my BIG BUCK squirrel and walked off some yards back to my shooting local, a nutter tail under twenty eight yard's and happy with that I set him up for some pic's at my shooting post. A buddy of mine want's to do some hunting with me so just waiting on a call from him to head back out. It's been awhile due to the weather but the wait was worth it and my icebox has been empty, not good hehehe. Ed

See I told you buddy, patience! hehehe

Nice pics of the "clean looking" B26 and the nutter is huge!  Enough to fill a hungry man perhaps.

I spotted 1 squirrel yesterday and today too.  He has moved into the hole in one of the oak trees.  It was funny watching claim that den site yesterday.  He thought there was another squirrel in there and he would stick his head inside the whole and back out again expecting something to come at him and attack him.  This went on for about 30min. until he got the guts to go inside, only to find it empty.  I really don't want to shoot the only squirrel I have left.. unless I see 2 together    8)

Thanks Harry, I knew this fella was a big one as I scoped him and also knew that he needed to be in my icebox. :) You might let that one you got moving in stay a spell and fatten up some and with him around it should attract some other's thinking it's ok to hang out in your DEATH ZONE! lol. Ed

Good shooting Ed.  You need to either train the poodle to retrieve or consider "taking him to the woodpile" also.  Hope the rest of the hunt goes as well.

Beauty of a nutter and rifle you got there.
I am assuming thats a .177 B-26.
I am contemplating another rifle, just not exactly sure what I want yet.

It would be for hunting so I want a .22.
I want plenty of power to do the job well without accuracy problems.
I am very finicky about accuracy.
Thats why I ended up getting a TX200.
I want something in .22 but I cant see that much money again for another TX.

Thanks Paul and yes it's a .177 , the B26 .22 would make a great hunter and both cals are known for their great accuracy. It's a must in all my gals since I hunt with them all and I'm a hit em in the fusebox type hunter. :) Ed

Yup buddy, I spotted him with the scope then launched the ol axe lol. The axe cut the limb that he was on, he fell and the limb dropped on him. lol lol. I should have put a camo on the axe, he wouldn't have seen it coming hehehe. Ed
