I was thnking in relation to scope mounts.....
« on: December 29, 2008, 12:08:33 PM »
I was thinking of applying some green loctite (retaining compound) to the dovetail/scope mount joint as a method of keepiing the mount from slipping.

Thoughts?

My first thought would be that life is gonna get miserable when the time comes to remove the mount :-)!  And trust me, at some point you're going to need to remove it.  Better plan would be rings that have a built in stop pin like the Accushot, best is a one piece BKL mount if you can find one.  JMHO.

I might catch a lot of flack on this one Mike, but I wouldn't recommend any type of loc-tite with AG's. A tuned rifle will rarely cause loosening of most bolts/screws on an AG.  If you tighten any mount sufficiantly to the DT/rails, then a periodic inspection is only needed,...like if your accuracy starts to waver. Same goes with the stock screws too. I've replaced the factory stock screws in a few of my rifles with allen head bolts which will give you a tad more torquing than the phillips screws. A scope stop or a one piece mount with a scope-stop pin will be your best bet. Best Wishes and Happy Shooting!!!! tjk

Thanks for the input.  I have one of the 5 screw mounts, it works very well.

I was just rattling things around in my head again.  That green loctite has gotten me out of some serious jams in the automotive world.
