GRT-III trigger in my Gamo Whisper with gas ram
« on: December 31, 2008, 11:11:02 AM »
This is an email sent to Bob, "Charlie" earlier today.

I ordered the trigger online Monday, 29 Dec 2008. It arrived today, Wednesday, 31 Dec 2008

WOW. That had to be the easiest and most worthwhile investment of 2008. I have a GAMO Whisper, with modified gas ram, and I think from opening the packing envelope to having it installed was about 30 minutes, including the time spent looking for my torx set, and firing a “Before” 3 shot test string. I used the pdf instructions direct off my laptop. Attached is the scanned target from my test. The top is three shots, offhand, with the original factory trigger. The lower is after installation of your GRT-III. Again three shots offhand, both fired with Beeman Crow Magnum pellets. The “flyer” on the lower target was the first shot and I was expecting a jerk, or difficult pull, like with the original trigger. That’s what you get, squeeze hard with a silky trigger and you get down and right.  All I can say is smooth. With a little more practice and I’m sure it will be shooting one hole groups. Not bad for a plinking fun gun. Thanks for making it easy.

It has made a HUGE improvement. Thanks

Welcome to the GTA Forums Guy !

You have found the BEST Forum on the Internet ! And the BEST GAMO Replacement Trigger in the WORLD !

It took me 8 years of putting up that terrible Gamo trigger, before I found Bob, and his GRT-III trigger. And I was so fed up, I just ordered it, and hoped that it would be better than what I had. After I put it in, and fired it, I thought something must be wrong, no BB gun trigger could possibly be this good. But it still is, and I love it !

So Welcome to the GREAT GRT-III Trigger Club, and the GTA Forums !!!

Welcome Guy. All I can say is "yep those triggers are awesome!"  Like Bill I also thought there was something wrong with the way I installed the trigger. It couldn't fire that smoothly? I have a turbo tuned Whisper with the GRT-III, and love it.

I just sent in the money order for a trigger when I should have been saving money. ^^; I'll need to wait probably until the end of the month to install it, though, since I sent my Big Cat back to Gamo for repairs after I learned here I was beating the hell out of it without realizing it.

Hopefully they don't decide to charge me for anything. Then I'll just need to save up for Gene's Turbo Tune.

One question, though. How far do you have to disassemble the gun? Do you need to just pull the stock off?

Yep, just pull the stock and remove one pin from old trigger. CDT has explicit instructions on his website to help you along with the change over. Here is the link for the installation: http://charliedatuna.com/airgun_docs/GRT-III%20trigger%20blade%20instructions.doc

If you get a small window that ask for name and password just cancel and the page will come up.

You just take the stock off. With my Whisper that involved 2 torx screws in the forearm, one on each side and then the Trigger guard that involved 2 other torx screws (different size than the forearm). The barrel and receiver just drop out then so be careful. Everything else is just like it showed in the .pdf instructions. The only difference is that my gun only had one "e" clip, with the other side having a flange head. The instructions show a pin, with 2 "e" clips.

Alright. Thanks! I was worried how much I was going to have to strip down and if I'd need more than screwdrivers.

what kind of velocity do those gas rams get compared to a regular springer? oh, the golden trigger transforms your rifle from a rusty pocket knife into Excalibur!

Haven't tested it, since it's just a plinker for me, the big difference is the vibration.

I've got pretty much the same setup except I lucked into a Deluxe.  Local archery range chrono showed an average of 935 with Crossman Premier Hollow Points, and 1127 with the included Gamo Raptors.

Joey, dont shoot those Raptors too much out of your spring gun. They will damage it. They are too light and will cause the spring/piston to slam and may damage your gun. Stick to the 8gr. pellets for the .177, or 15gr. or so for .22. Hope this helps. Unless you want to damage your gun then have her turbo tunedHEHE. :o

Naa, I broke them out for the chrono and occasionally when I want a buddy to go "Wow" after hearin' that sonic crack.  Other than that it's a steady diet of CPHP and now and then a five shot string of Predators for a change of pace.
