RWS Muzzle Brake vs Beeman Universal Muzzle Brake
« on: January 05, 2009, 08:35:31 AM »
I ordered the Beeman Universal Muzzle Brake for my RWS 34 Panther from PyramydAir but got email from them saying that the item is out of stock.

I checked out Airguns of Arizona and saw that they are selling RWS Muzzle Brakes for the Model 34:
Product code 230 2662 - ribbed design: Model 34, 36, 38, 45
Product code 230 2652 - 16 mm smooth design: Model 34, 36, 45

I tried to search the forum to find out if these are easy to install as the Beeman but could not find the information.

I am thinking of getting the smooth design but before I do that. I would like to ask the experts in group.

How do the RWS Muzzle Brakes compare to the Beeman Universal Muzzle Brake? Which one is nicer? Are these as easy to install as the Beeman and how are they installed?

Thanks.

James

Muzzle Brakes do I need one or not....... All it boils down to is personal preference, if you like the looks of one.....DO IT GUY, put one on the end of your barrel. If it looks cool to you, IMO that is all that matters. I have some on my air rifles and the other air rifles do not. Now lets get down to how we determine what to get. The prerequisite is to determine the OD of the air rifle barrel you want a Muzzle Brake on.Normal three sizes are 14mm, is .551 inches, 15mm, is .591 inches, and 16mm, is .630 inches. Your next step is determine the ID of your Muzzle Brake. Your selected Brake should be 14mm, 15mm or 16mm. They are all usually held in place by two or three set screws, for two set screws they are usually tapped left and right of the Brake. Three set screws are tapped in line of your MuzzleBrake. Installation is real easy, loosen set screws slide Muzzle Brake over barrel end, either all the way in or part way in, your choice, Thats how easy it is..........Bill

The RWS muzzle brakes selling at Airguns of Arizona are for specific RWS rifles: Model 34, 36, 38, 45. So it should be a perfect fit for these models.

I am trying to find out if these specific muzzle brakes do not require installation by a gunsmith and will just install over our rifle the way bcshooter indicates.

I have the ported muzzle brake. Its ported aluminum 4.5 long and 3/4 dia. I installed this on my RS2 Beeman because the open sights $ucks and the front sight shows on ths scope. Installed this to conceal the part where the sight was. This also made cocking easier for it added 2.5 inch of leverage. This brake only fits on 14mm barrels.

James , the RWS ribbed design (Product code 230 2662 - ribbed design: Model 34, 36, 38, 45) looks similar to the beeman universal with a matte or parkerized finish... I have had both the beeman and the RWS ribbed model. I still have the beeman universal and not the RWS.  I find the beeman universal to be superior to the RWS in looks and function.
(Product code 230 2652 - 16 mm smooth design: Model 34, 36, 45)  I believe this is the muzzle break that RWS puts on the pro and pro compact models.
I had a panther pro compact and it definitely looked cool, but the muzzle break was made of steel and was very heavy.  It also attached with 3 set screws and the screws marred the bottom of the barrel. The beeman universal doesn't look as good, but is more functional and includes shims/spacers in different thicknesses to go in between the barrel and the set screw to fit different diameter barrels.  so no barrel marring :)

I have a Crow Magnum Muzzle Brake (as shown by BCShooter)  on my Panther and it uses the three inline set screws.  It fit perfectly with almost no play.
It did have a tendency to move at first when cocking, but retightning the screws stopped that.   It does not cover the end of the barrel, so does not look as clean as the others.

You may consider having a custom built muzzle brake.  Their are several people that will do this for you.  The one I'am getting is $45.00.  That's not bad.

I have the ribbed RWS model mounted on my Model 36, but if I had to do it again, I'd have gone with the Beeman. The RWS model installs solidly with a couple of set screws and doesn't need any shims, as it's made for that specific barrel diameter. The Beeman, even though it has shims, also produces a solid mount, as the conical shape on the muzzle end centers the brake and allows for a tight mount.  As fatback mentioned, the RWS model has a matte finish.  It is a cast aluminum product, while the Beeman is machined from an aluminum blank.  In my mind, they both function similarly, but the Beeman looks better.

I purchased the smooth RWS from Arizona air guns and installed in 5 minutes on my RWS 34 panther.  Remove the front and rear sight, slide on the brake and tighten 2 grub screws.

Thank you, all.

Based on the feedback, I think I will go with the RWS smooth muzzle brake because of the cool factor. The screw marks will not be a problem since I will probably not reinstall the sights anyway.

I have been trying to get in touch with Airguns of Arizona since last week and have not gotten any response from them. I wanted to find out if they have it in stock. Is this normal and should I just fill out the online ordering form?

Once again, thank you everybody.  :D

I ordered on line and got it in about 10 days.  It arrived last week.  I've had responses to my emails by next day.

It's a personal choice but I would not get one without a sleeve so you don't mar the barrel, as noted by others in this thread.  It's not a big deal if you are putting it on a Crosman the barrels already have dimples on them and they can be replaced for $12.

But if it's an expensive gun, I don't think you want to mess up the barrel by screwing the muzzle brake set screws into it.

HELP!!! Re: RWS Muzzle Brake vs Beeman Universal Muzzle Brake
« Reply #13 on: January 12, 2009, 08:38:42 AM »
HELP!!!! I got the RWS Muzzle Brake Smooth Design this afternoon and tried to install it on my RWS 34 Panther .22. It would not slide into the barrel. It seems to be a very tight fit. It might fit if force is used but I think that would end up with a scratched barrel.

MGERENCS, were you able to install your RWS muzzle brake on your panther? How did the installation go and how did you do it?

Regards.
James

The barrel size is 16mm. The RWS Muzzle Brake is 16mm and specifically for RWS 34.
