« on: December 28, 2008, 08:53:49 PM »
Are PA gun laws any different/stricter from other states? My friend was boarding his International flight from Erie International Airport and while checking in his baggage he was made to surrender 4 tins of pellets and 1 scope. The officer on the other end told him that the stuff was potent enough to kill humans and hence....

Can`t believe it.....they even confiscated the pellets and the scope....what the h?$l....that`s even worst than any Canadian province. PÀ must be a commie state!!!!! Next thing you know they`ll confiscate baseball bats and hockey sticks....those are dangerous and lethal in the wrong hands.

I have to defend PA as it is a great place to live.  They issued me a License to carry firearms for 6 years now!!!! :D  And why would your friend have a scope and pellets in his carry on? Airport security is for everyone. There Hunting laws are just plain stupid!!!!!

It was a Leapers scope ;) One and the same aint it? The Airport officer assured him that the stuff will be returned to him when he comes back to the country next time (which is 7 days from now). I wonder if they will be able to relocate it :(. There you go, some $$$ down the drain.

PA laws should not be the deciding factor at the airport. Sometimes the highly intelligent and friendly security staff just screw w/people cause they are bored. Did the guy with binoculars have any trouble? His had a launching strap, too. I am just saying....... John
however a google search and....

Man had BB gun in luggage

A man who faced jail for possessing an airgun in Bermuda says tourists should be warned they are illegal without a licence.

Carl Tomlin, 22, of Everton Road, Gamlingay, bought the $50 pellet weapon during a holiday at Disney World in Florida, as a present for his girlfriend's 13-year-old daughter.

He was arrested after gas cartridges were found in his hand luggage at Bermuda International Airport on his way home, and he admitted the gun was in his cargo luggage.

Mr Tomlin spent two nights in police cells, and could have been jailed for up to two years by magistratess or fined up to $5,000.

However, after pleading guilty to (did not get the whole story.)
Chance favors the well prepared

Did i mention, my friend was detained and he was made to call up his boss (a US citizen, as my friend is not) and they noted his SSN number etc. before letting my friend board the flight.

How about NJ laws? Are they as strict as PA? This time a friend is flying from NJ and planning to get some stuff through him.

Hey Arnie,

NJ has very tough gun laws ! You need a permit to buy a rifle or shotgun, or even a bb rifle, issued by your local police department. You must apply for a pistol permit to buy any pistol, even a bb gun.

But your friends problems are with the FAA Security, they are responsible at the airports, and are up for interpretation of the officer on duty. One might pass your friends pellets, a while another will order a strip search for him. It is best not to anger the officials in charge !!!

Well I guess then I wouldn't tell him to take any chances. Which other states in US have similar laws regarding air rifles and/or pellets? I am from India and usually rely on friends traveling back from US or UK to bring me back some lead. Have thrown quite some money down the drain last time.
