pellet fit
« on: February 18, 2009, 01:30:38 AM »
Was curious about the way different pellets fit in my Gamo 220. Have been trying to shoot alot (for me) since having gun tuned by Gene. I got a better scope(leapers) and the extra weight of the new scope seems to have helped me a little more in accuracy. Maybe , gun is just breaking in, I don't know, but, this gun is really shooting great now. Trigger is perfect!
Anyhow, it's been buggin me that pellets fit different. RWS super-domes drop right in and they shoot the most accurate for me. Beeman crow mags have to be pushed in with a little force, and they shoot pretty good. The JSB predators fall right in and are very loose fitting? Can't seem to shoot very consistent, though. The tight fitting Beeman's sound like they are really bringing it when fired ( I realize they are heavier and fit tigher-assuming more trapped air?)
I've tried a few other pellet types with similar results as to the way they fit in the gun.

Is there a correlation between the way these gun's perform and how the pellet fits into barrel?

Thanks, Shane

Definitely....the snugger the fit the better....keeps all the air behind the pellet.  But not so snug as to break a nail pressing the pellet into the breech.  Also, if the fit is abit loose but the skirt of the pellet is soft....the air behind it will expand it....forming a tight fit.   There's been a few threads on "pellet fit" here.......

Just wanted to apologize for asking repetitive type questions. Just didn't notice in the searches I was doing were only in last 24hr's box. I changed search to the last year, and, obviously found answers to most of my questions. I get impatient sometimes, sorry. I realize I don't have very much to offer in return--yet, but, I am learning and really am enjoying this sport. Thanks to all at GTA--Shane

ps: I ordered a Beeman R-9 DG in .20. from straightshooters, they said wouldn't be in till March 15. Can't wait!!

Don't apologize Shane,....I rarely ever do a search,...even for the old stuff I know was posted/threaded. Gamoman and Gewiz gave you some sage advice,....now for mine,....The skirts mean everything. Sure you need to find the weight of pellet that shoots the most comfortably in your rifle,....but for me,...I always look at the skirts,...and not trying to be *_*_*_*_*_*ist either ladies,...but seriously,...I prefer a thin skirted pellet that will conform to the rifleing the most. To me,...that's the JSB domes. Whether they be Exact's, Jumbo's, Express,...etc. The Preds are a little more stout in the skirt area,...but the dome style pellets?!?!?....... I really like them the most. And they are worth the extra money for sure. Good luck finding your 'Golden Pellet'!!!! tjk
