RE: Match#1 Pistol Results Post Here-How to Post your Scores

An excellent suggestion has been made regarding match score postings. Please try to follow this format when posting individual scores:

Please put your score, match name in the "Subject" line of the appropriate thread, in the following format:

Score: 999, SPP Pistol Match 2,
Score: 999, Steroid Match 3,

Any further details needed can be posted in the body of the post. This will make it much easier for everyone to keep up with the match progress and simplify the moderator's task of tallying scores.

Hi Viper

score = 179

I have to get around to figuring out how to post a photo.  Despite being in the IT business, I don't do any web work, so that a different world.  Ah...I see, you attach a file.  I'll have to get the camera setup and shoot, then I'll post another post w the pix of the targets.

Few tricks to get clean holes w/o adjusting the pistols velocity (which you can't do in many cases)

- use a WADCUTTER pellet
- use a GOOD target.  This has to do with the paper itself.  The short fiber targets of the Edelmann targets cut cleaner than the long fiber paper in other targets.
- for home made targets, use a heavy paper.  I use 60 pound stock.  Some people use up to 110 pound stock.  But you need to know what your printer can handle, so you don't damage your printer.  I've also heard of people using "construction paper" (the stuff kids use in school...at least I did) but that might be hard to print on.
- use a target backer.  I use cardboard (cereal boxes, corrugated boxes, etc).  The cardboard acts like a cutting board to the pellet (the knife) and the pellet can punch a cleaner hole.  When the holes start to rip (vs being punched), then its time to replace the backer as it is probably shot out.  With a target backer, I can use the cheap targets and print my targets on cheap 20 pound copy paper.

Some people have "baked" their targets in the oven.  But even if you are careful that is a fire danger, so I do NOT recommend it.

Baking in the oven??????? That would do it. Last straw. Oh heck no!!!! The wife would throw me out de house. I already caught grief by leaning an airgun up against her jewlery box cause it wouldn't fit in the safe.

Plus being a Safety Professional, I would also recommend not baking in the oven.

However you could make a simple syrup and then soak the target in it and hang it out to dry. It will be nice and crisp and should make nice holes. Plus if you do bad you can eat the evidence.

The download target has a heavier line and an X ring inside the 10 ring, otherwise it is a standard NRA/ISSF 10m AP target.
The Gamo target has smaller diameter rings than the regulation 10m AP target.

The match is now closed. Nice job! I'll post Match#2 later on today but I think I may change the target. If someone has any ideas as to a standard target we could all use at 10M that would be great.
