help with my AR2078A
« on: December 26, 2006, 01:00:35 PM »
I have an AR2078A and needed some help. One of our members, Wallis, was very quick to offer good advice and Archer Airguns has answered two emails the same day as they were sent. Where I live there are almost no serious air gunners and no shops at all. Nice to have folks who will help out when you need some answerers. By the way, I have an Archer Pellet Trap (Joe Matusic design). Unless you bought one from Joe, this is the best trap on the market bar none. I have an indoor range and take lead dust seriously. My CFX smacks a metal trap to pieces with 500-100 rounds. What I need now is a shooting gallery model trap that uses ballistic putty so I can action shoot indoors!!

PBJ:
Kind of missed the "need help part"...are enugh QB fans on site to cure whatever proablem you find, but I must have missed what problem got you to post.

The silent traps are great...heating - A/C duct sealant does suck up pellets.  For that matter, will stop a .45acp in about 6" of travel, so  little trouble with pellets passing through.

Yea, those traps kick butt!!!  Built my own duct seal trap a few months ago, still collecting pellets!  The only problem I had with my design is that the duct seal gets heavy with lead after awhile and falls off the back wall of the trap.  Almost time to redesign, should just buy one....hehe, but I have this habit where I just like making things:)

There's always a QB78 fan around here with the answer to most all of what ails ya...or your QB rather.  Mine are both alive and kicking with many rounds through them.  Such a great simple little gun.

I have the same Silent Trap you have.  They are very nice.  Trouble is that I shoot deep holes in the putty fairly quickly because of the short range I shoot at.  Even the Longbow drills holes in it pretty quick.  My 22 FPE rifle drills holes even quicker.  It would help if I used different targets so that I wasn't always shooting at the same spots.

However there is another solution that costs less, and gives you a bigger target area.  Also almost silent.  Just the sound of the pellet hitting the cardboard box.  This suggestion was given to me by Jan Kraner.  Fill a plastic garbage bag with old clothes.  Loosely is okay.  Put the garbage bag inside a cardboard box.  Jan said this would stop a .22 Stinger.  Clean out the lead pellets without getting messy.  No need to repack holes in the putty opened up by your shooting.

The rags are a big advantage over the box filled with old magazines that I originally started with.  That was messy, and the box very quickly started bulging keeping the target from laying flat.  Not a problem with the rags.  When the holes get too big in the box, get a new one.  Tape the top closed, and you have 6 sides to mangle before needing a new box.  Free boxes of course!  Might even be able to raid the wife's closet for old clothes, too!

Have to agree with you.  These forums are a great place to get questions answered.  Name it, and someone will have an answer for you.  Well...most times.
