Ice in Western NC

Time for a big fire in the fireplace and a blueberry pancake breakfast with hot coffee.  Probably won't shoot outdoors today.

Yes, the earlier shot was a rare clearing in the cloud we have been in all weekend.  It has usually looked much more like this.  The freezing rain and sleet has turned to sleet and snow now.

Hey Ed:

Is it a bad sign when the snow is coming down hard and is mixed with thunder and lightning?  By the way, the Gamo Hunter Elite is up here with me, presenting this photo op for your work.  I am at the subtle little X just above Greenville, just across the NC state line.

Cool, she look's good with the winter type background. As far as that weather that sound's scary buddy and the Radar almost resembles the formation of a twister along with the thunder and lightening. :0 Ed

Well, it is still snowing (I think).  The winds are howling, probably 20-30 mph sustained and gusts much higher.  Snow is flying sideways everywhere - pretty much blizzard conditions..  The power is out but the back up generator and the satellite tv and internet are still up and running.  I have a pot of chili on the stove.  Thank goodness for propane.   It has just been too nasty to do much photography this afternoon.  Her are a few shots I took earlier, after about the first inch fell.  Now, it is dark enough that any flash results in the blizzard effect you see.  The Subaru is under a large, covered carport.  The stuff in the screened porch is blowing in through the screens. Jersey may get more snow, but it has nothing on the storms we see up here atop the mountain.  Wish I could record the howling winds for you, too.

A little earlier it got bad here. We had about 1 inch  slush in 30 minutes. It turned to rain. It is suppose to start back and snow until tomorrow morning. I live up in the Hickory NC area, sometimes it goes around us but look like we will get it this time. Enjoy the chili, sounds good.

T, I just wanted to tell you I love you place there. The house and country side is beautiful.
I'm hooking up the dog sled and coming up for some of that chili and warm fire.
You dont shoot strangers do you?

I better stay here, the wife just brought me a bowl of home made pottato soup.
