hey Dave we probably ran into each other in Da Nang. I was there from Jan 72  till May 72 when I left country. Was there around the time the Main dispensary was hit with mortars.
I use to go to the Air Force NCO club for the live shows, even thou the English was bad, the music was good, once ya got gassed up enough. Most of them  bands were flown in from the Philippines.
will have to find some of my old photo's of one or two of them bands.

Hey Buster...I got to Marble Mountain in May '72 and was assigned to a 1st Aviation group, the Royal Coachman, Col Cass was the Commander at the time. We closed the place down in August and moved to DaNang Main and lived with the Air Force. Did you ever get to the Bamboo Cottage on the AF Base? That was an air conditioned, carpeted restaurant just like you'd find back home and a permanent mortar target just to *_*_*_*_*_* us off. Glad you made it back brother!

Thanks same to you, Guess We were some of the lucky ones, especially you, chopper door gunners , well , not many made it back. That was one MOS that wasn't in my vocabulary.

I remember a place like that, cant  remember the name, but maybe that was the same place, spent most of my time away or drunk or , or, lol. wasn't much of a drinker, only at the shows, than , .

I spent 2 1/2 years in country. first tour was in '69-71, took the extra 6 mts for 30 days R&R. came back to Ft Hood and hated it, racial problems were bad back then. Went home one weekend , came back, walked into my room and my roommate pulled out a .45 , pointed at me, told me to get in and if anyone else came in to pull the covers over my head.

I reenlisted two weeks later,  another week later was back in 'Nam, figured if-n I were gonna get shot, might make it worth while. 1971 and 1972 were bad in country, too many hippies getting drafted, made the war not fun anymore LOL

Those are beautiful "homes" you've lived in/on Leo.  My first "home" was the USS Independence CV-62, which as you know is a close relative of your Connie.  I next moved to the USS Midway CV-41 for a quick ride back to San Diego and then its decommisioning.  By far my favorite time aboard ship though was on the Abe Lincoln, where I went TAD to Buddy Stores (mid-air refueling) where I worked on S-3 Vikings for VS-29 and A-6 Intruders for VA-95....that is where I realised how much more fun it is to be on deck than it is to be below deck.  Due to color blindness I never got to hang out up forward on the cats where you worked, but I still enjoyed being on deck as much as I was allowed.  It was the experience of a lifetime and one I will never forget.  During the "RIF" (Reduction in Force) in 94' I was allowed to re-enlist, but since my rate was locked up for advancement I decided to take my chances in the civilian world.  Some days I regret ever leaving, but then I look at my kids and realize why I'm here and not our on the boat....my first son was born in 95'.  From one squid to another, I salute you and your service to our country brother...cheers!

The best part of 22 years in service are the memories and exposures I acquired to better know myself and limitations. 7 years of my 22 was on shore command and 15 on a floating playground. Got to spend time on Med-cruise & west-pac cruise. Navy sure was an adventure!
