While I previously posted something of a more serious nature, let me change the tune here to post something which happened to me during my first few weeks of being a police officer...I give you my word this is a true story.
During my first few weeks on the job, I was assigned to work with a training officer who had come to us from an inner-city police department. "Jim," not his real name, was one of those types of guys who was nothing less than a "woman magnet." I swear this guy could stand in the middle of a desert and within minutes could find himself surrounded by 25 beautfiul women. I don't know what it is he has, but women love him.
We were on patrol one mid-morning when we received a call to respond to an apparent suicide. A lady had returned home for lunch and found her husband had started his car in the garage and had apparently gassed himself. Turns out he was terminally ill and had done it to ease his own suffering.
Upon arrival, Jim and I were met by the wife...a very, very attractive lady. Since I was new, Jim directed me to wait in the garage with the husband's body, secure it as a potential crime scene and wait for the medical examiner to arrive to whom we would release the body.
Well, I ended up in the garage for about 3 hours while the medical examiner finally decided to show up. Everything looked fine, no sign of foul play..other then the fact this guy decided to end his own life.
After the ME arrived and took the body, I walked across the sidewalk toward the house as Jim was walking out the front door with a grin on his face. As he was coming outside, I asked him what it was he was grinning about. He told me he'd tell me once we got in the car. As we were leaving I again asked him..."what's so funny?" He said to me, "you know that lady back there?" I said, "yeah?" He said, "I've got a date with her!" I kid you not, I sat there dumbfounded...I'm thinking to myself...Man, this has got to be illegal or something. I'm thinking...he's kidding, but no...he was stone serious.
To make a long story a little shorter, my training officer..Jim, and the poor dead guy's wife ended up getting married and to this day still live in the same home.
Some of the stuff I've seen and done, I swear Hollywood couldn't make it up....
Anyway..such is the life of polce work.
