Your Rifles and their fave Pellet? List!!
« on: April 03, 2009, 01:13:06 PM »

Just thought I would hazard a database from you all.  Obviously 2 rifles of the same make and caliber can and often do have a different fave pellet, but I thought this might be an interesting thread to see if there is any correlation we can learn from.

Beeman R7 .177   Best Pellet Beeman FTS    Worst pellet CPL

BAM B26 MM .22   Best Pellet Beeman FTS     Worst Pellet Gamo Hunter

Quest 1000 .177 Tuned By Me   Best Pellet FTS/CPL     Worst Beeman CrowMag

Sheridan Blue Streak .20 (1990)   Best Pellet Beeman CrowMag  Worst Crossman Wadcutters from 1990

Sheridan HB Pistol .20 (1991)  Best Beeman CrowMag  worst Crossman Wadcutters from 1990

Webley Tempest .177 (1992)  Best Beeman SilverBear   Worst Beeman Silver Jet

Just a sampling.  My "go to" Pellet now is always going to be the Beeman FTS. FTS are great pellets. JSB Exacts have been 50/50 for me.  If your gun hates FTS, Try Exacts. No joy? Then you got a lot of homework ahead of you!

Yay Spring! AG time!

Every air gun doesn't like something,
But no air gun doesn't like JSB.

I am not trying to creat conflict but sence you asked. My MM B-26 .22 shoots Gamo Hunters really well. Two days ago I shot 6 ground squirrels in a little over 90 minutes. One shot was a dead in his tracks head shot at 40+ yards, literaly threaded through trees and branchs. It was awesome! I wish you guys had seen it. Admittedly though I am not finished testing different pellets yet. I still have less than 200 pellets through the gun. I shoot both paper targets and furry ones. My best day though was when I started using the Gamo Hunters.  I tightened my scope back up, shot about 5 rounds ( of the gamo hunters) into the bulls eye, then went out and took the six squirrels. I am going to try the ones you mentioned, it would be terrific if they were even better!

\"Watching ground squirrels go underground and I know they are procreating, getting ready for a mass invasion this summer! As soon as I git my gun its all over.   I\'ll put down their little uprising \" Terry thought to himself as he watched from his kitchen window as the squirrels ate his orchard.

Gee, I was going to say that about RWS Superdomes.

I don't shoot the JSBs as much, too hard to get, like 'em when I see 'em, though. The Panther liked these a lot in particular. The WFH did not like JSBs and that is a rarity. OTH it did like the Gamo Hunters.

I don't think I'm organized enough yet to line up pellets with all the guns, but the danged Superdomes seem to work pretty well in most everything.

Here is what I have learned about my air-gun's favorite diet:  Six RWS air-rifles.  All of the 177 guns seen to like any pellet I feed them.  My RWS 350 Magnum seems to shoot anything well.  But most of my shooting has been at 25 yards...and some at 100.  At 10 yards I could not tell any difference at all.  One thing noticed...change type, and or weight...I get a several inch POI change.  Pick your best pellet, and zero with that one.
1. RWS 54, 48, 48/52 all in 177 like most JSB Exact Heavys, and JSB Exact 8.4 gr Next best, and real close is Beeman Kodiak, then RWS Supermag 25 yards, and at 100 yards JSB Exact
2. RWS 350 Magnum 177 likes JSB Exact heavy, JSB Exact, Beeman Kodiak, RWS Supermag, RWS Meisterkugein at 25 yards, at 100 yards it likes JBS Exact, Beeman Kodiak, and JSB Heavy.  My RWS 350 seems to like just about anything I fed her.
3. RWS 46 177 likes JSB Exact 8.4 gr, RWS R-10, and RWS Meisterkugein 25 yards
4. RWS 460 Magnum 22 likes at 25 yards Beeman Kodiak, RWS Superpoint, and RWS Meisterkugein  At 100 yards it likes the Superpoints the best...it does not like at any range Beeman Silver Arrow...even 10 yards!
5. My two Chinese QB 36-2 177 air rifles shoot best at 25 yards JBS Exact 10.4 gr, JBS Exact heavy, Beeman Kodiak, and RWS Meisterkugein, R-10, and Supermag
6. Sheridan Blue Streaks 2 ea like "hands down" Sheridan 5mm standard pellets best ( kinda minie ball shape, not diablo, stright side pointed pellet 16 gr)
I have never used any Crossman Pellets, I have used Savage coated 16.4 gr pointed pellets in the 460 at 10 yards, and Beeman wad cutter coated pellets in my 177 guns at 10 yards. I have not shot these at any range than 10 yards.  My other air rifles have not been tested enough to learn anything.  Again the big thing is POI change with a pellet change.

After much field testing and research the favorites are as follows:

.22 RWS 350 Magnum-  Best Pellet:  JSB Exact 15.8 Grain/ Worst pellet:  Benjamin(CPD) Domes

.177 BSA SuperSport XL-  Beeman Crow Magnum 8.8 Grain/ Worst pellet:  AirArms Diabolo's

.177 Gamo Hunter Elite- Beeman FTS 8.8 Grain/  Worst pellet:  Gamo Master Points

.177 Gamo CFX- Beeman FTS 8.8 Grain/  Worst pellet:  RWS Hobby

.177 Gamo Shadow 1000- Beeman FTS 8.8 Grain/  Worst pellet:  Who knows?!?!  Haven't had this gun long enough to find out.

I've tried quite a few of the Gamo's, JSB Exacts, the RWS Pellets and a handful of Beeman shapes and weights.  All said and done:  I've narrowed it all down to using Beeman FTS, Predator Polymag's, JSB Exacts and Beeman Crow Magnums.  They're each very similar in weight and accuracy and usually don't require any windage or elevation adjustments when going from pellet to pellet.

Nice thread!

It's nice when 2 guns like the same Pellet, but
« Reply #8 on: April 05, 2009, 04:30:24 AM »
why does it seem like most the time, they like expensive FTS and not cheap Gamos?

Well, the Gamo's for me are good nuff for cans and casual shooting.  But the tightest groups for me, usually require tighter tolerences.  This obviously stands to reason.  But it's fortunate if your gun loves Gamos or RWS superdomes, both of which are affordable.  I guess FTS are not that expensive, but in .22 and up they are fairly spendy.

Just bought a new Remington Airmaster 77, and it likes lots of different pellets.Beeman Silver Bears,RWS Hobbys,Gamo Match wadcutters,Beeman Laser Sports. It's not so wild about Crosman Premier wadcutters. This gun looks very promising....
