1st time Bullet trap
« on: April 13, 2009, 02:50:54 AM »
I'm getting closer to finishing off my 10meter airgun range. Thought Ya'll might like to see my 500lb+ 1/2" plate pellet trap. I have never done this before and it turned out bigger than I first thought!! I was shooting from the hip :emoticon:  Testing so far is good and hoping it will last for a while.   :D Tony.

1/2 inch plate!!!  That should work for your 30-06, too!  Neighbors might complain though.

Let us know how it works.  I'm working on a similar design, but in an 8-1/2 by 11 inch model.  Do you plan on hanging several thickness of carpet, etc. behind target?

Yes I am going to hang carpet,  having trouble picking the right color LOL:). So far 1" plus sand is working. I caulked the bin area so I can shop vac and recycle the lead.  While testing "no carpet and no sand" the pellets if shot at top 10" area of opening can bounce on the floor of bin (no sand) and make it out again about 1 in 30 chance, the pellet is spent and max only about 3 ft only so no danger really.
I did find that the lower front lip of the bin area at about 1/2 the height or more of the opening is best, making the bin area deeper helps prevent any ricochet (if any) from coming back at you :p  Having fun, no ricochets and still testing, Tony.
