pellets for cf-x....poll?
« on: January 16, 2007, 10:03:15 AM »
I still have quite a few to shoot to see what mine likes but what are you guys using, even if it aint a cf-x what do you like and what kind of gun. Those who have 10+ guns dont need to list them all but whatever you shoot most, gun/pellet combo. I retract my earlier statement about not owning a bunch of guns cuz I caught myself checking my funds after looking at some .22's.....dammit!

If you're married, you don't even need to ask that question :-)!

Re: pellets for CFX.  Under 25 yards or so, mine still likes JSB Match Diabolo S100.  That's the heaviest of the JSB Match pellets, advertised weight is 8.26 gr.  For everything else, the JSB Exact, 4.52 head diameter, used to be the best.  Lateley, seems like Superdomes are better.  That answer is qualified for a couple of reasons.  I've been doing stuff to my gun, and I'm limited to a 10 yard range right now.  And unless you're shooting a 10 meter gun, that's just not enough range to really know what's going on.

Now here's an answer to a question you didn't ask, and it might even be more helpful.  My CFX hates anything with a point, safest place to be with a pointed pellet loaded is directly in front of the muzzle!  Okay, maybe that's a LITTLE overstated, but you get the idea :-).  Despite many other's claims to the contrary, it doesn't like Crosmans or Beeman FTS's.  Crow Magnums are okay out to about 25 or 30 yards.  Pretty much anything under 8 or over 9 gr. is a waste of time.  HTH.

well, I picked up some gamo's with the gun, shot about 100 (yuk!) and ordered some CPLs and JSB Exact Express (7.6). The JSB are all over the place, much to my surprise. The first 20 shots with the CPLs were 1" at 30 yards then they started going all over the place. The next two times I went out the best I could do was 2" at 30 yrds, i know im not that good but out of fifty groups you'd think I could get a good one. I'm gonna get a pellet sampler from SS and see what this *_*_*_*_*_* likes now, I think she just likes to cost me money like all females, yes I KNOW FOR A FACT my cf-x is a woman.

My Gamo shadow likes the Gamo hunter 8.3, mag 7.6 and loves the Premier HP's. The B3 loves the Gamo master points, it spreads everything else like bird shot :0 . My spankin new CFX , seems so far to love the Premiers too. Still in the break in though but at 20yrds it's stacks em,not complaining. I have a target range in my loft above my shop , about 20yrds end to end. Very nice , these S.D. winters are wicked. Ed

My NEW hunter elite LOVES the heavy ones.I'm only shooting at 13yds(in basement).
I started out shooting the heavy ones to prevent dieseling and found out that HE (BIG AND BURLEY)
shoots best group with them.best group with beeman kodiak xtra heavy10.6/beeman kodiak10.2/jsb diablo8.4and H&N pointed8.6
I think I better stick with the H&N B/4 something breaksssssssss.

My new CFX seems to shoot everything I put through it very well.  The gun is not broken in very well yet.  Still shooting with open sights, waiting for mounts from BKL, I don't even know if they have been sent.

Open sights 20 yds. beeman bear cub wad cutters hit a stamp size piece of tape, time after time.  Have not stacked pellets!!  Also, same with superdomes and a cheap wal mart daisey wad cutter.

Have some other varieties to try.  So far very happy.

I am a little anal.  Washed and waxed pellets.  Waxed the barrel of the gun also.

I have been using the spray wax I use to clean and wax my motorcyle on the road.  It has been working great so far.

Good luck,

Perry

Hey, Fat1,

Two ideas.  Your CFX came with the BSA 2-7x32, didn't it?  Are your certain the scope isn't moving around?  Do you have any of the adjustments maxed out?  Either or both will cause the problems you're having.  Take the scope off and try just the open sigts.  The other thing is, what shooting technique are you using?  In other words, do you know about the "Springer Hold"?  The CFX tends to be more forgiving about this than most springers, but they still like to be handled gently.  Yup, just like a woman!  HTH, and keep at it.

My old lady( I mean broken in) Shadow 1000 likes JSB Match Diabolo 8.2g at 10 yds.

Sorry to say my other guns are virgins (I mean not broken in yet). I’m still working threw the Straight Shooter’s sampler pack on two of them and today I got a Benjamin 342 (she old, but she sweet) back from being repaired and tuned by Carl Rettig that needs to be put threw the paces.

So lets count; 2 women, 3 girls (NO DEAR!!!!  I'm not cheeting on you. Just jawing about BB guns with the boys).

Fat1, don't look at your funds, just buy! :)

My new CFX shoots these pellets with the most power
Superdome
Crow Mag
Kodiak
Logun Penetrator
Predators (widened skirt)

Best so far for accuracy in no order
Superdomes     (lousy BC though)
CPL                   (modest power in my gun)
Daystate FT      (weak power in my gun)
Kodiak               (heavy pell, more curved trajectory)
Gamo Hunter     (lousy BC, weak power in my gun)

Does not shoot Beeman FTS or BS Diabolo's or Gamo ProMag well.  CPH's are not that great either.

I have more long range accuracy testing to do and am leaning towards Logun Penetrators or CPL's for my everday shooting.  I also have some CP HP I'm going to try.

Take Care,

John

I guess it depends on the CFX barrel you get.  At least that is what I've heard.  Still shooting open sights, but one observation that I have made is.  A pellet with a skirt diameter less than .185 seems to load easier and shoots just as accurately.

At this time no chrono, that is about to change, should have one within 1 wk.

Superdomes, Crow-Magnums, and Bearcub shoot accurately.  They are harder to load, without damaging the skirt with the breach.

Picture below, all pieces of tape shot at 20 yds.  Open sights, have been having trouble receiving my scope mounts.  First and second pieces shot from a sitting position resting my hand and forearm of the rifle on a stump.  Last piece of tape shot at 20 yds. kneeling off-hand.  All pellets fired hit tape.  First 2 pieces of tape 10-15 shots each.  Last piece 20 or more.  Bottom line the pellet used crossman premier hollow point.  $4.96/500 Wal-Mart.  Good for me not a good selection out here.

These performed well for me, did not stack bunches of pellets, with my eyes and lack of practice with a rifle.  I did not think it was bad I am happy.

If my scope mounts don't come in soon I may purchase a Williams Pep and go hunting.

When I have chrono info I will let you know.

Good Luck,

Perry
