Hunting with PCP Q`s??

For the ones that hunt with their PCPs what do you do regarding the reservoir fills. I mean depending on the Rifle you may get up to 30 or more shots. but still I think thats not enough to go hinting for half a day. what it you need a refill? have to go all the way back home to get one. I dont think any of you will  take a scuba tank on your backs!! haha
I am a springer hunter for that reason but been thinking lately of investing my savings on a PCP. a Evanix Renegade Carabine so I was thinking about this issue for hunters.

some advice opinions perhaps?

20-30 shots is quite a bit for a hunting outing. If you are taking well aimed shots that you are reasonably sure you can make. Nonetheless, folks do take back air sources when hunting with a PCP rifle. Pony tanks are a popular option. Pumps are quite potable, they can broken down to pump body, handle, foot piece and put in or strapped to a day pack. Or, just leave a tank or pump back at your car, truck, ATV and circle back if you really need a refill at lunch.

If you happen to change your mind and buy Air Force rifle all you have to do is buy a share tank and take it with you .Marvin

I hunt with my PCP's all the time and a full reservoir of air in my rifles has always been more than enough for a days hunt.   I'll spend 1/2 the day, sometimes the entire day, in my favorite woods hunting rabbits and squirrels and by the time I've bagged my game I usually have only taken anywhere from 6 to perhaps 15 shots.  There have been days where I've taken 20 shots, but I don't think I've ever taken more than that and like I said, 10 or so shots is usually a good average for me for an afternoon hunt.    When I get home I recharge the tank so I'm ready the next time I hit the woods.  

If you're sitting on the outskirts of a prairie dog city or something like that where you're going to be shooting all day then yes it would be prudent to bring along an air tank or your pump.  But for regular small game hunting where you will be picking your shots a full charge in the gun is more than enough to last for a days hunt.  

PeakChicks suggestion of a pony tank is excellent.  It's probably the most convenient way to bring extra air with you,,, but a pump will work well also....

About pumps..
where ca I get a very good and cheap pump. and how will I make it fit the reservoir tank on the rifle?
I was thinking to buy also a compresor to charge the Rilfe when I am at home what compressor its ok and how much do they cost?

I believe the best airgun pumps are from Hill....correct me if I'm wrong other pump users........  Next in line would probably be a FX pump.

Most if not all PCP airguns should come with a probe that will fit that airgun.  I have read a complain that one of the Korean brands did not supply a probe with their PCP's (Sold at Pyramid Air Guns).  If not.....or if the one that came with it is defective, there are a few places that sell those probes......  Airguns of Arizona for one.  The threads of the probe that come with the PCP should fit the threads of the hose that comes with the pump....if not you'll need to buy an adapter....usually about $20 to $30.00U.S

Most PCP users don't own a compressor.....maybe some airgun clubs do.  There's only a few companies that make them.....FX for one.  And they're quite expensive...in the $1200.00 plus range....

Ok... I put 3 mags though my AR6 with 28/32gr pellets..
witch give 18 full power shots....then if I'm still hunting
I use 22gr pellets for another 2 mags..by that time its
down to around 1200psi from a start of 3000psi...
and even then its still got more power left than a
good springer if yer drop down to 16gr pellets...

Ps ...will have a LOT less shots now....
Am presantly turning it into a 90+ FPE

lighter vavle spring / heavyer hammer spring &
enlarged port.....don't yer just love the net

That's gonna be a real air hog Kiwi......but powerful!!!!  I don't have much nerve to mess around with the innards of my airguns.....unless something breaks....then I don't have a choice.....

Pedro, don't even bother with a cheap pump. They don't hold up and aren't worth it. Buy a FX or Hill pump. As mentioned, air compressors that will achieve the pressure needed for PCP rifles are pricey, $1500.00 - $4000.00 price range.

Pedro - I hunt all the time with my Cyclone.  On a good day I only shoot maybe 12-15 shots, but most of the time 6 shots.  Capable of shooting 40 shots at 32fpe.  I use a 44 cu ft carbon fiber tank rated at 4500 psi.  Small, lightweight and get 15-20 refills.  I carry this in my truck.  Really, don't worry about how many shots you can get.  Just make sure your accurate.  That's what makes a PCP so much fun is the accuracy.  Good hunting.        Paul

Are several solutions...pumps, small air tanks, etc.

But I hunt tree squirrels during their season...limit it 8 per day.  IF it took me more than 30 shots to get 8 squirrels, I'd quit airgunning and take up knitting.  I do bring along a hand pump in the Jeep (and a spare "beater" Benjamin 342 ) but so far, haven't needed either one of them on a hunt.

Varmint hunting might be different. Have hunted ground squirrels where 100's of shots could be taken.  But even the rimfire guys weren't straying far from the truck (and the ice water, gatoraid, etc)...could have easily had a fill tank on the truck.

But if you're talking about casually wandering around the woods shooting random things...then just bring a springer. Just know your local laws about such things, or sooner or later the wildlife officers/local PD will take an interrest.
