Can inletting be done with a Drill Press?

I would like to make a stock for my storm xt along with all the other improvements i am makeing to it. But i dont know about doing the inletting. Ig this can be done, can anyone tell me how. I could just cut off my current stock at the pistol grip, and glue it into athe new stock. Just a thought. Thanks in advance.

Well, one thing that might get you into trouble is there can be some play in a lot of presses (like my $25 Chinese drill press).  If you were to use something like a rasping drum for roughing out and then a sanding drum, it could be hard to hold a line if the drum is oscillating too much.  You will have to finish by hand, anyway.  Could be just as easy using a wood rasp to profile by hand if you are working from a semi-finish blank.

Thanks. I figured it would be a little hard. I think i might just try and use a saw or knife to cut out the basic shape, and the a rasp, and some sand paper to finish it.

Instead of trying to go horizontal, you might drill a series of vertical holes the proper width and depth (or a little under) and then finish the inletting with a chisel.

Do you have access to a table saw? You can hog out the middle on the TS and then finish with dremel and chisel.
