Need help with next air rifle purchase
« on: February 02, 2007, 11:30:16 AM »
I am looking to buy a Gamo 1250 but seeing as there are no longer any .22 cal. left I have decided to go ahead and get the .177 version with the possibility of re barreling down the road. I already got the RWS 350 so that takes care of the high power 22 anyway. All I need is for a bit of help finding a good deal on one. I have found one on Natchez for 380.00. Cheapest I have been able to find, is that a decent price for one?? If anyone knows of a better deal I would appreciate the info. One other thing, where are these made?? Are they actual Gamo "made in Spain" or are they made for Gamo by another company? Thanks in advance for any info.

I have done two 1250's with .20 barrels and both are real nice shooters pushing 12.8 Crow mags  at 1050 fps.  Beeman 11.2 FTS's go super sonic with the 1250 20 caliber, but the crow mags are very accurate like the FTS's.

Hey Rich, what would the 20 conversion go for and is that something I could put on myself? I have no clue what the conversion entails but I have removed and replaced the barrel assembly on one of my springers before and it was a huge pain. I wouldn't have a problem sending it out though, have done that before without a problem. I think I'll get the rifle first and see where I would like to go from there. Are .20 cal. pellets hard to get? Thanks for the info.

If you want to do it on a 1250 they are a pain in the butt, but sending just the barrel assembly" they come of super easy just a dowel pin holds the whole thing on" and i'll do the barrel swap for you.
Let me know if you get one and want to do a 20 barrel and we will disuss it.

Vinceb. To the best of my knowledge, Gamo are still made in Spain (it also says so on my CFX). The English connection could stem from the fact that Gamo of Spain bought out  BSA in England. Gamo is now distributed in Britain by BSA. There are some who say the CFX is a copy of the BSA Airsporter, but I could not comment on this.

As an aside, I was lucky to find a .177 CFX over here. Gamo/BSA have dropped the .177 from their UK catalogue and only supply the .22 . This is despite the fact that .177 is becoming more and more popular for hunting at 12fpe, due to the flat trajectory. Strange that you guys are having .177 rammed down your throats and .22 is not available.

Please let us (me) know how it goes with the order and rifle.
If you're happy with everything I'll go ahead and order one also.
Rich....it  looks like that CFX tune may have to wait a bit longer if I
get this one too  :)
At least I'll have something to play with while the CFX is with you  :D

Just got my 1250 in today after Natchez refused to sell me one because I live in Massachusetts .I found another vendor and they got it to me no problem. First thing I noticed was how heavy and bulky it was but after initial clean up (it was filthy) I shot a few to get a feel for it. It was not hard to cock at all. I could do it easily with one hand no different than my other springers. Got a MADE IN ENGLAND one but was not very impressed with fit or finish. Not up to par with RWS in my opinion. Still, its what I wanted. I will try to do some chrony strings this weekend if anyone is interested in what it can do. I did some phone book tests with it and it is a power house for sure. Anyway's, that's all for now.

Got your PM thanks... glad you got one eventually and yes I'd be very interested in what the chrony has to say.
I'm still trying to decide between the RWS 350 and the 1250.... wichever hits the hardest and shoots the straightest
is the one I want.

I have both a Gamo 1250 and the RWS 350 the Gamo is a .20 cal and the 350 is a .177. Fit and finish is close, giving the edge to the RWS, the RWS has a better looking stock than the 1250 , the wood on the 350 almost looks like Walnut, but I think it's the luck of the draw because I have tuned a couple of them and one had a real lite colored stock. Both rifles cock very hard and the RWS is slighty less than the 1250 in the amount of effort it takes to cock them. The RWS has a much better trigger right out of the box which only takes a little adjustment to get it where you like. The recoil is greater on the RWS than the Gamo but it don't hurt the accuracy.

The rifles are about the same in power with equal pellets. It looks like it to me is what ever one you can get the best price on.
