quest problems?
« on: February 10, 2007, 01:44:52 PM »
hey guys I have a quest 1000 (don't laugh too loud I'm just starting) anyway the first things that I learned is that the screws that hold the barrel down start to loosen, I put lock-tite on these and also noticed that the barrel  seems to have side to side play not so much when it is closed but I think any would be bad. it does'nt seem to hold a group meaning I can sight it in one day and after a while it seems to need sighted in again?
am I doing something wrong? is it the quality of the gun? the scope? (came with 4x powerline) is it ME (  I do have a tremmor)but I have been shooting for a while and I usualy use a rest. any help would be appreciated.

Thanks George

Hello George, Question if you don't mind me asking, how much did the Quest cost you. There's one that's been sitting on a shelf at my local do all store. It's been there awhile, over three month's. Brand new box, no tape up's.Price $75 I thought about grabbing it for a can killer that,s all. Ed

it was 99 at the local wally world. Just mounted a 3-9x40 hoping the higher power will improve my groups at 30 yds which is where I'm trying to sight in. I probably could have done better had I shopped around but patience is'nt my strong suite.  I'm havin' a lot of fun with it and I'm sure for the money it should make a fine can killer!

Just a few suggestions from my experience.  I have 2 Quests.  You have to hold the rifle EXACTLY the same every time when shooting from a rest if you are shooting for small groups.    The point of impact seemed to move around a bit on my rifles until they were well broken in.  Sometimes  your scope will move in the rings, or seat in it's mounting causing a change as well.  You have to clean the mounting screws and the holes they go into well for the loctite to hold. Don't overtighten them as you may cause your wooden stock to break at the screw holes.

You don't have to be ashamed of your Quest.  A good one will shoot as well as anything out there.  I shoot mine at steel targets out to 75 yards and they do just fine.  A CDT trigger really increased my ability to hit my targets with both of my rifles.

IMO they are a great rifle for the price, and Crosman service is fantastic should you have problems or need parts.

Enjoy your Quest

Fix called me last night to

discuss his "fix" for the Quest trigger and what he has done is make the trigger a lot more efficient as far as fit and tolerances goes. That's great and it sure would be nice that everyone had his machining talent, skills and tools. Then you have to know how to use them...lol... But you also have to completly disassemble the trigger and though the Theoben type trigger is not too complicated it can be a bit tricky getting together the first couple of times as Paul found but figured it out. It's not something that most would want to venture into. I get at least one or two e-mails or phone calls  a week with "Help...I can't get it back together". But that's the fun of it. I've made some special tools a long time ago just for working on the Rekord triggers and Gamo/Theoben type triggers.

Great job and posts Paul.
