HAD SOME TIME TO KILL
« on: January 29, 2010, 10:45:23 AM »
so I went to a pawn shop to look at airguns. There was a beautiful RWS 48/52. $400.00, "But I'll take $350." He had a few airguns but the prices were either a few $$ less than new, or $20. less. No deals there for me.The guy knew about airguns, and wasn't letting anything go.

There is a nice late model 54 in .177 at a local pawn. He wants more than I can buy off the used forums, including shipping. What really gets me is he has a pair of Benjamin pump pistols, a 137 in .22 and another in .177. Only asking $650 for the pair. I told him they were really worth about $60 - $70 apiece, tops. He said, "I know. They are on consignment, along with the 54." Now, I ask you, when you are running out of space, what safer place to store your guns than a pawnshop? Security, dry environment, and free, baby!  :D

No doubt! I know these guys are in business to make money, but I bet he didn't give more than $60-$80 for that RWS. The good thing is if I wait a while and go back, I could probably get it for half that. I dont think it will be going anywhere soon. I also asked if he had any 1022's.He said he cant keep them in stock. I asked what they go for, he just smiled and said I would pay the price of a new one! "They're popular."

Pawn shops prey on the ignorant when it comes to guns. If you are lucky, there is one decent gun in a dozen, if that. They pay next to nothing since the sellers are usually folks who have no knowledge of or interest in the gun. Might have been Granddad's and now need some ready money, etc. Then the shop tries to wring gold out of it. Best thing to do is take cash, make your best offer and, if they refuse, walk away. Remember, you have ZERO recourse if there is anything wrong with it.
