$74 Clearance S1k
« on: February 13, 2007, 10:55:10 AM »
Had nothin to do this afternoon so decided to sight in one of the $74 dollar clearance Shadows that I picked up at Walmart awhile back.  2 days ago I installed a Golden Antler scope on the rifle and tody was the 48 hour period I usually wait for the the loc-tite to dry.

It was to cold outside to set up the chrony and test all my .177 pellets like I usually do, so I just grabbed some Crosman Premier pellets and headed out into the cold.  I put up a target, backed off about 7 yards and took a shot.  Pellet hit about 2 inches directly under the bullseye.  I took 2 more shots and both pellets hit the same hole the first pellet had made.

I backed up to 25 yards and within 10 shots had the Shadow shooting dime sized bullseye groups.  I shot two 10 shot groups just to make sure the scope was on and each group was dime sized and dead center.  It's a good thing the entire process went so quickly because I was now half frozen to death, so I started heading back down into the basement.  As I was walking to the basement entrance I saw a starling land in the top of one of the maple trees in the yard.  Figured this must be  gift from the airgun Gods so I popped a pellet in the gun, aimed, fired and down came a dead starling.

When the weather warms up I'll still go through my routine of firing/chronying all the pellets in my arsenal but it was clear from todays session that the gun just loves those 7.9 gr Crosman Premier domed pellets.

$74.00 for the rifle, $27.00 for that Golden Antler (it was the last one I got at that price) ****the best $101 dollars I ever spent    :D

Well Jeff, like I say, you can't go wrong with those Gamo Shadows... hehe.. For the most part thay are good shooters, and with a little tuning and TLC they can match those $500.00 plus springers all day long...:) But of course I am very biosed... hehehe

I have also found thta my last S1K likes the Crossman premier pellets that come in the box... I had those around since the beginning but never used them until I bought this last S1K. They seem to be consistant and not very many flyers. It is so funny that you can buy 3 or four of the same air rifle and they all don't like the same pellets.. weird.......:)

Best of luck with you S1K and your new B26-2

Yuppems, I have the same combo with an upgraded trigger.
Shoots great!!!
Wish I liked the stock:(

Once I get my 220 sorted I'll have a go at either stuffing my S1K stock full of foam as Gene suggested, or replacing the stock altogether or choice#3 selling the Shadow and putting the money towards my 3rd and final airgun purchase for the year, the IZH46M pistol I've been wanting.  B26 on its way in the mail tomorrow, so who knows, I may need the S1K to complete my "wind chime"....hehe!

Hey Dan,

I filled all my synthetic stocks with the memory foam that Gene recommended, worked great.  The only stock I didn't fill was the Winchester/Daisy 1000 synthetic cause I still can't figure out how to get the butt plate off.

As for the S1k, yeah, ya can't beat those rifles, especially when you can find them for $74 bucks.  Periodically I make the trek to the Wally worlds in my area, but so far I haven't been able to find any more clearance shadows.  I'll keep lookin though  :)

Anyway, congrats on that B26 you got, that was quite a deal,,,, glad you were able to get it.  Enjoy...............

Huhm, let's see........now that I've installed the electric radio fence, I think we could set up a couple 4 man tents in my yard, that's assuming no-one wants to sleep on flagstone:)  I have ALOT of rock in my yard and very little grass...I would say it's almost 2-1 rock to sod.  Before I moved to Texas and owned my own yard that needed mowing in the 100+ degree summers I couldn't understand why someone wouldn't want grass and plants everywhere...I learned real quick where I could buy rock at a decent price!!!  I have 4 1/2 tons of flagstone, 9 tons of river rock, and about a ton of some other rock..."basalt" gravel...and that's not even counting the pavestone retaining wall or the edgers:)  You could say that I like rock alot....but I have set up a couple tents in my yard for the kids during summer sleepovers, and as I said, I have the dogs on a radio fence now, and I can pretty much change the shape of that whenever.  I have a few friends with substantial amounts of land though, so when I really get itching to shoot long distances I can go visit for a day and shoot things.
