loading the gamo cfx, pelltes dont seem to fit right

I have just recently purchased a gamo cfx, I had an air venturi gas air spring put in it and of course I got the grt III trigger.  I got the gun in the mail the other day took it out and started to shoot it.  When I went to load the first pellet I dropped it into the breech and I pushed it in with my finger and noticed that it was not all the way in the barrel and that if I were to close the breech that the pellet skirt would get crushed.  So I tried to push it in farther and it would not go.  I pushed it as hard as I possibly could with my finger untill it hurt so bad from pushing it.  The pellet would still not go in the barrel far enough to not be crushed by the breech.  When I bought the gun I also ordered a pell seat just to have in case I needed to smooth out any pellets.  I know that the pell seat isnt used with fixed barrel guns to push the pellet in because it wont fit but thats what I have to use in order to get the pellet into the barrel and when I do use it, it deforms the pellet a little but I have to use it because I cannot get it in with my finger.  Even when I use the pell seat I still have to push pretty hard to get the pelet into the barrel and when it does go in it makes a pop noise because it is such a tight fight.  I thought maybe that after putting a few pellets in that way that it might get better the more pellets I put in it but it hasnt gotten any better.  Is this normal?  I wouldnt think that it would be that hard to get the pellet into the barrel.  Shouldnt you be able to get it in with just your finger?  Has anyone else experienced this problem or does anyone have some advise on what I should do about it?  Thanks

Hey, Brad, what pellets are you using, and do you have anything else you can try?  I had a similar problem with an HW 77 and Crosman Premier pellets, the CFX I had was best with JSB Exacts and RWS Superdomes.  I'd try some other pellets, if that doesn't solve the problem, send it back and get another one.  Could be a too short chamber.  Good luck.

WElcome Brad and congrats on the new gun.  Dave has already given you good advice, I just wanted to welcome you to the GTA.  

BTW...... my .177 CFX requires me to push the pellets with my index finger to fully seat them but it's very easy to do and the pellets seat nicely.  Follow Daves advice, try some different pellets.... they shouldn't be that hard to seat properly....

The pellets I am using are RWS Superdome and RWS-R-10 Match Heavy pellets.  The gun also came with the 50 pack of Raptor PBA pellets and the PBA pellets do not fit either they are just as tight as the others.  I have some Crossman pellets ive had sitting around for a while I will get those out and see how those fit.  Im sure I could find or make something that I could use to push the pellets in the barrel but I really dont want to have to do that.  I should be able to push them in with my finger like you guys said.  And also I dont want to have to sellect what pellets to use based on if they fit in my gun or not I want to choose pellets based on their performance.  I would think that it is a defect and the gun needs to be sent back what do you guys think?  I hope they can fix it because im not sure if they would be able to give me a new one, I went back to the site I bought it from and was looking around and I must have got the last cfx because now it says they are of stock.

Brad, I shoot Superdomes in my CFX quite often. All I have to do is nudge the pellet in with my fingernail and I'm all set. Maybe one out of 15 pellets gets a crushed skirt, but that's my fault for not making sure it's all the way in.
Sounds like your CFX might have some issues. You could try finding the appropriate sized allen wrench, file the ridges off of the short end, & then round the end so it fits into the pellet skirt. Might help you seat the pellets better. But, if you really have to force it, I'd send it back.

I have found that any pellet with a square shoulder around the
out side of the head can be hard to get in....
Hold the gun vertical when loading can make a diffrents...

Hi guys thans for the advice.  Ok there was one person that said it could be a short chamber, and another person that said to file the ridges off the short end and then round it.  I was just wondering what exactly you mean by a short chamber and what is it?  Could you explain a little more about that and what it is please.  Sorry if it is a dumb question but I am still very new to air guns.  Thanks

I meant to file the ridges & round the short end of an allen wrench, this would give you a makeshift tool to push the pellet into the breach. Just make sure it fits inside the skirt of the pellet without distorting it. But, like I said, if you have to push too hard, send the rifle back.

ps........throw those Raptor pellets in the trash, all they'll do is damage your new toy !!!!!

the problem is that the rotary breech doesnt quite line up with the opening into the barrel.The 'holes' move in an ecentric arc, and if the breech over or under rotates, you are not perfectly aligned with the reciever opening.  See if it isnt easier to load if you keep a little pressure on the lever for rotating the breech. be carefull, the little lever is plastic and can break. this was the case with mine. when i tuned it, i recontoured the edges of the rotary breech slightly to make for smoother loading.
That being said, the superdomes are still a tight fit, but they give me great groups at a much higher velocity. i use the back of my pinky nail to nudge the pellet into a fully seated position.
