Don't do what I did
« on: August 05, 2009, 01:40:16 AM »
I got a call from my son yesterday who was wanting some help to clear a property line of brush .  A homeowner wanted a fence constructed through a woody part of thier property.
I should have said NO.  But nothing was going on at the time for me.   We had chain saws, loping shears, hedge clippers, machetes, just about every sharp and dangerous thing your can think of.    Well I had the hedge clippers.   And trying to be "safe"  I was wallking with them with the points downward so that if I tripped on the stuff we were piling up I would not staab myself in the body.   I was high stepping over some brush with the clippers in my right hand pointed down incase I lost my footing, when I felt a burning sensation in my right calf and a bump in my right hand at the same time.   I thought what was that?  I looked at the back of  my calf and all I could see was a purple line  that looked to be about an inch long.
I thought well that was close, I did not think the skin had been broken.  I walked about 15ft and I felt my foot squishing in my boot.  The blood was really pouring.
I put a hankerchief over the wound and limped to the truck and fastened it tight with duct-tape.   The other guys tried to rush me to the emergency room.  Had to fight them to leave me alone.

Anyway I guess I will be home most of the day since I don't want to be out and have this start bleeding again and scare the old folks. Or the young ones.

Jeff,  Bill,  As luck would have it I had to go to the Doc's office today.   Not for myself but to pick up several RXs for my Wife. Shes' at work and could not leave.  She asked if I had cleaned the blood of the floor mats.  When I said yes she sent me on as errand.  Anyway the trip  worked out.  This may have been her way to get a Doc to examine the puncture.

The Doc asked why I was llimping along and I showed him the wound.  He checked the wound and stated that in his opinion the puncture went to the bone.  He cleaned the wound and I got another Tet shot.  No stitches.  The Doc said better to let it heal from the inside to the outside.  Whatever.

Yes Bill the wound was caused by the hedge clippers.  Now I know how a deer feels when arrowed.

And I thought this would be a day of rest.  Drinking beer.

Thanks for the concern gentlemen.
