My Gamo Big Cat 1200 Tune
« on: August 23, 2009, 10:38:34 AM »
I can't wait till Tuesday when im off work and get to work getting my gamo cleaned up and tuned. I got a new trigger from Charlie and Spring, Seal, and Lubes from James Marconi. I also went and bought some misc tools and stuff from Harbor Freight (Love That Store). I spent last night taking everything apart except for removing the main spring (don't have my spring compressor built yet). If anybody has any tips that aren't in Charlies B19 guide, im all ears. Ill post pics and video of the tune later.

Good luck with your tune. Sounds like you have all the right stuff. You will need that spring compressor. I finished a deburr and lube tune on mine recientlly. It's quite improved but I think at some point I am going to try some duck seal in the stock to bring the overall shot cycle sound level down.

hey walt,....out of curiousity; on your lube/tune did you retain all the stock components ? did the debur/lube make a marked difference in the smoothness of your big cat ?
thanks in advance..........jim aka triry

Jim,...I can't speak for Walt,..But I did a simple de-burr and lube tune to a Crosman Quest Varient (the SP) and the difference before and after is like night and day. I bought this for my future nephew in law because he really enjoyed shooting mine over the holidays last year,..Now I just gotta get a Gold Trigger on it!!! I used all stock parts except for the seal,...but I used a factory seal from a G1 that was in perfectly good shape. It turnned out really nice too. One little touch I like to add in the deburring process is this. After I de-burr it with a dremil tool, I like to take a small patch of fine emory paper and touch up sand the slot/bolt/scope stop holes. Then check the entire area out with a Q-tip to ensure it's as smooth as can be,....like checking for buurrs when re-crowning a muzzle. tjk

thomas,.....thanks for the tips.! i just picked up a big cat for my son ryan, at 11 he's already proving to be a natural with any pistol or rifle i put in his hands. i ordered the gold trigger for the big cat and we stuffed the stock with memory foam which made a dramatic diffrence in "twang".
since ryan enjoys tinkering as much as i do, i thought we'd do a basic lube tune, along with improving the gun, it also allows ryan to become more familiar with the inner workings.
in the meantime, i pulled up trigger tuning info for the winchester 800x that we recently recieved fromn ed aka "shadow".
gotta say, im thoroughly enjoying the tinkering aspect of these airguns !!

All stock parts except for a GRT trigger. Used Maccari lubes. It's a very improved gun from what came out of the box.
