When did Guam become a state???!!!

"Where America's Day Begins", thanks to the international date line.  My old sub operated out of Apra Harbor there in the early 70's.  Lately, I Googled on Guam and it sure has been developed since those days.  Even has a Hard Rock Cafe.  Back then, there were only a couple of decent watering holes.  And practically NO available women.  We used to say GUAM stood for "Give Up And M*******".  Like to see that on their quarter!
