You guys see this?
« on: September 10, 2009, 03:16:06 PM »
Saw this on another post.  Compasseco will be selling a Disco clone?  I think the price is too high considering the Disco alone is selling for the same or less now.  I expect this rifle to drop in price to $150 or less soon.  Considering you can get a QB for under $100 I don't see why the Disco clone shouldn't sell for $125 soon????

Thoughts?

There another thread floating here about the TF-78, i just don't see the deal at $199...NO PUMP!..Airgun supply has the whole gun and rifle for $269..

We will have to see if the TF-78 shoots and feels better than the disco.

I will be waiting for future reviews on the TF-78. who knows? It might be a better shooter than the disco.

Sunshine was selling Discos for $155 & $269 w/pump. The plus side of the 78 is a thicker barrel, ajustable trigger, 3000psi, &  a more solid bolt & action. The downside is a shorter barrel & tube. If it had a 24" barrel & full length tube it would be a real winner & well worth the extra money, Then again just 6 mounths ago a Disco was $269 w/o a pump. So maybe the 78 will come down in price. I gottsa say I wasnt very impressed with my Disco stockIt felt like it was made for a kid. The trigger doesnt seem to be the right shape or feel either. I wound up putting a pistol grip & 1399 stock on it. Also had to play with barrel bands just to get it to shoot stright. I think if had had the two side by side I might have gone with the 78.

Consider:

Other ready made QB PCP conversions were running +$250, so $199 doesn't seem out of line.
(The PCP do-it-yourself conversion kits cost $125...plus the cost of a new rifle....call that $200-$220 and you did the work yourself.)

IF you are use to working/tuning/modding a QB's,  owning a PCP version makes sense.  If you are use to getting the co2 versions to shoot great and run smooth, should be able to do the same for the PCP version.

Larger, higher pressure tube than a Disco.

QB trigger is a lot easier to get in line.  Can get the Disco in line by drilling. taping, adding screws....the QB comes that way.

Have nothing against the Disco, have owned two, liked them both.  Did order the PCP QB on 9/18... do expect it will be delayed in shipping (isn't everything?), but will give it a work out when (if) it arrives.

Will eventually try a .25 top end (from a .25 QB)... and might try a .20 top end (from a different QB).

Yes, but the ship date has always been  shown 10-1-09... and I really do expect that to be delayed.

Jack Haley's shop is just down the road 1/2 an hour, but he seems to be consentrating on big bores now and that doesn't really suit my needs.  Am a bit of a QB junkie, having 6, but even the HPA converted .25 isn't really a long-range rifle as I won't run them at high pressure with the standard tubes (850PSI perfered, but have the .25 up to 1200).

Think I have a picture of all 6... will look.

But unlike many, not looking for the extra speed a PCP version can give to give extra energy... want the speed with well shaped  heavier weight pellets to flatten trajectory and reduce windage a bit, making longer range hits a bit easier.  IF energy was the only goal, could proabably crank up that .25 a few more foot pounds (but as nice as a 30.6gr. Kodiak at 685fps shoots, seems a shame to mess with it).

I like the straight wrist stock on the one on the far right. What's the story behind that stock?

Got into a discussion with James Linthicum about custom stocks he inteded to start making/selling.. one thing lead to another, and asked if he could make a nice stock in the C1 style for a QB.   It's really a very pretty piece of wood; the lines are simple but it has that fast-feeling of  the old C1.   He'll make one for the Diswcovery as well, in do it yourself fully inletted versions, or fully finished.
