It almost isn't fair-Gamo Whisper
« on: September 15, 2009, 12:59:37 AM »
Man, I've got to say my Whisper has been fantastic!  It was the first air gun I've owned since my 1971 Sheridan Blue Streak.  It is so accurate and quiet.  The only thing I've done to it so far is to put one of those magical golden triggers on it.  I managed to lose the slip ring, but found one at Home Depot that fit it.  I'm not even sure if this one needs any kind of tuning except for lubrication.  I may get up the courage to try that myself or just leave it alone since it is doing so well.

Because a lot of times forums tend to highlight problems with stuff, it was nice to find a gun that shoots this well and really doesn't need anything.  I sent my RWS 350 off for repairs and put the Leapers scope I have for it on the Whisper.  With the mil dots I can easily ding my Gamo Squirrel at 35 yards with every shot.  I'm going to put the smaller washer on the squirrel and just see how small I can go and still knock it down.

Your right Randy,

People seldom respond with positive remarks concerning their air guns ! Even the R-9 and the R-1 have receive bad press from their owners. But I will say this for them, if the have well tuned air rifles, such as those Tuned by Gene, Bob and other known Fine Air GunSmiths, there can be a big difference these Tuned Guns.

Now I have a Gamo 890S that I have had for about 11 years, and it is now sounding like it could use some of Gene's Magic ! But it has performed very well for me for 7 years, and exemplary for me after I discovered the GTA Forums and the GREAT GRT-III Trigger !

I am sure that there are many fine inexpensive air guns out there ! But I believe that the owners are afraid to say so, as on other forums they would be ridiculed for thinking that their air gun was good !

Here on the GTA we do not allow ridiculing and putting down members, even by other established members. And I do not believe that we have anyone here that would !

Great luck with your Whisper, and your RWS 350 when it comes home !

What was wrong with your RWS? Just curious as I got a RWS 350 recently.

Hope the repair works out for you.

Hey Randy, I got myself a Whisper also....and I didn't do anything to it other than installing a GRT III trigger and abit of Heavy Tar on the spring.  It can shoot 1/2" groups out to 40 yards.....most of the time.  Can nail spent shotgun shells 7 to 8 times out of ten.  Haven't chronied it....but I would think the pellet speeds would be comparable to the Viper's and Big Cat's (Same powerplants).....between 850 to 995fps depending on the pellet.....RWs Hobby's hit 995 with the Viper.
