First kill with new scope

Hey everyone.I finally got the time to mount my new Tasco Golden Antler scope and Beeman 5039 mount to my 34.Just wanted to say thanks for all the good advice.I got her sighted in yesterday but didn't have time to shoot at anything worthwhile.But today after work,I grabbed my 34 and went out into my backyard.I didn't see any pigeons right away,which surprised me because they are out of control in my neighborhood.Well,I looked over a couple of houses down into a big mulberry tree.Nobody has lived in the house for quite awhile so I don't feel bad shooting over that way on occasion.At first I didn't see anything but after about 10 seconds a dove landed on the top branches,about 60 feet up.I rested my 34 on my fence top and  carefully squeezed off a shot.The bird flew up and back about a foot and then fell to the ground like a rock.That sure was easier than shooting through the sights,especially for my eyes.So I walked over and picked it up and realized that my shot was right on the money,a head shot.Pretty exhilarating to say the least.So this was my first kill with my scoped 34.Thanks again everyone.Ken.

Fantastic Ken, what a way to break in a new scope. It look's like you got that scope sighted in tight too, head shot. Well don't stand there and look at your pic's hehe, go get us another one.;) again super shot guy.;) hunting, Ed

Thanks Ed.I was getting frustrated at first because my shots were all over.But then I came back to this sight as usual for some reading up and realized that I wasn't placing the cheekpiece exactly in the same place every time.That was the difference.The proof is in the picture.Ken

Nooo!,doves are illegal to kill with airguns in illinois!

yeah, same here in good old NY..   Half the country lists mourning doves as game birds and they harvest tens of thousands of them, but not NY. Here they are considered songbirds and are protected.  They do have a nice "song', and they are beautiful, but from living down south in my early years I know how good they taste :)

NY keeps talking about changing their status to game birds and opening a season, but hasn't happened yet.  I hope it happens one of these years,,, I've got them all over the place here,,, all year long.

yea,..like Jeff said they are illegal to take them here in NY. But I can remember as a kid taking a few of them when it WAS legal in NY. Hoping the laws will change back to the old days cus there are tons of them around. Probably won't happen any time soon as we have too many anti-gun/hunting liberal politicians in our state. Oh....if you are thinking of getting a pistol permit in NY,....do it now! These looney lefty politicians are going to try to take away our rights to bear arms. JOIN THE NRA TODAY!!!

Way to go Ken... I am glad you come through with that bird being killed by the RWS 34..:) I saw one of those 34's appart the other day and was amazed at the quality and engineering that those Germans did with that rifle.. I even got a chance to shoot it and wow was it a real nice shooter.. So I am getting one in the next few days or so, thats how impressed I was with it... Anyway back to your first kill... hehe

Hi Gene.Glad you were impressed with the 34.I'm totally satisfied with mine.It still surprises me sometimes how hard it shoots those Superdomes!As for the dove,I didn't realize 'til after the fact that is was a dove.The pigeons around here are like flys,and I thought that's what is was.Doves  have to be in season here in California,but I guess I got paid back because earlier today as I was outside setting my sprinkler timer,an unidentified bird pooped on me.I suppose I had that coming,as I have thinned out the pigeon ranks around here by 30 or so.That Tasco Golden Antler was the best $30 I have ever spent!Now if I can just finish up with all the "honey-dos" tomorrow,maybe I can go get a squirrel or two!Ken

There's a small sporting goods store a few miles from my home,, he only stocks the higher end Beeman and RWS rifles, and a couple of times while I was in there I looked at the 34,,,,, really nice gun !!  Beautiful stock, nice lines, just a really attractive gun.  I've been tempted to buy it a few times, but so far I've held out.   Surprisingly his prices, for a small local store, are really pretty good.  

Go for it Gene,,,,, that 34 would look nice nestled in among all those other guns on that huge airgun wall of yours......        :)
