It is a great resource to maintain the x53 rifles. And it has the details for the 3 recommended trigger mods, which you will really want to do at least one of them.
The major problem which is fixable is that the trigger sear is simply stamped out of plate metal w/o finishing, and the burrs snag on the hammer creating a really gritty trigger pull.
If you are going to do target shooting w the 953 you will want to replace the open sights with diopter sights which are much better for target shooting.
This is the sight set (front and rear) that I have, and will be installing on my 953.
http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/Crosman_Precision_Diopter_Sights/608The silly thing is, the sights cost more than the rifle.
FatMan in his threads did a good writeup on sights for the 953, so do read those threads.
The other option is to put a red-dot sight on the rifle. That is what is use when using the rifle as a trainer/starter rifle or just to plink with. The red dot is a lot easier to use than open sights.
I have faith that you can learn to shoot left handed. I am right handed and I learned to use a 10-key calculator left handed. I was clumsy as all heck for a couple months, until my left hand muscles started to get coordinated. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
There are shooters who are cross dominate, and shoot right handed but aim with the left eye.
For AR, the problem is that it is a fairly EXPENSIVE solution. There is a prism that attaches to the rear diopter sight, and it sticks out left, so you can hold the rifle right handed, and use the left eye to sight with. Since this is a very specialized piece of gear, I think it is fairly expensive. Since Neal Johnson retired, I don't have his site to check prices. This is just to let you know that shooters that are cross dominate can't use the normally dominant eye, and there is a solution.
For AP, it is easier. If your right arm and hand are OK, you can shoot AP right handed but just use the left eye to sight.
gud luk and gud shooting.
