Adjusting the T05 trigger

I have an RWS 34 Panther and an RWS 350 Magnum. I have heard that turning the adjusting screw on the trigger will only increase or decrease the first stage. This is not exactly true.
After experimenting with both rifles I have concluded:
1. Turning the screw clockwise all the way will give you the shortest first stage and the heaviest second stage. I don't have a trigger guage but I would guess around 3 1/2 lbs.
2. Turning the screw counterclockwise will increase the length of the first stage AND lighten the second stage.
3. Turning the screw about 1 7/8 turns counterclockwise will give you a very long first stage and a second stage of around 1 1/2 to 2 lbs.
4. If you turn the screw more than 2 turns countercockwise you will lose the second stage altogether and you will not know when the rifle will fire. (Not good)
I have not decided yet which way I prefer, but I am leaning towards a short first stage because a long first stage seems to make the muscles in my hand flex in a way that tends to pull me off target. If it was up to me I would make it a short first stage and a light second stage, although this could be dangerous, especially for the novice. Both of my rifles are home tuned, but I did not tune the trigger. Too many tiny springs, pins, and whatnot. Has anyone been able to tune their T05 trigger for a short first stage and a light second stage?

Think you should try a trigger gauge to make sure it's lighter. I have tuned many of these triggers and IMO the trigger cannot be lightened by the adjusting screws. Lee

That's what I noticed as well, playing with my trigger last night. The first stage pull length is affected but not the second stage creep or pull weight.

You have to turn the screw counter clockwise about 1 3/4 turns before you notice much of a difference. At about 1 9/10 turns it definately feels like it breaks at less than 2 lbs. But be carefull, more than 2 turns and you will lose the second stage completely. What I did was turn the screw until I lost the second stage, and then I backed it off just a hair. After experimenting with both extremes, this is where I've left it. At least for now. Last week I went the other way, next week I may go back. Who knows? I'm not really satisfied with either way. I know someone (Rob Hawkins) who says he can make the trigger the way I want, but with shipping and everything it's kind of expensive. He charges $50 for the trigger tune, Plus another $40 to replace the trigger blade with the metal one from a Ruger Air Hawk. He also ads 2 set screws with ball bearing tips, for what he calls "a true 2 stage trigger".

I can tell you an easy way to lighten your second stage pressure I just got done tuning my B25's T05 trigger, the second stage was just too heavy to shoot accurately out to 30yds so I took it apart to figure it out and after I thought about it it was a simple fix! these triggers are easy to work on don't be scard! if ya wanna know send me a private message

Here is the "unofficial RWS-54 Home Page.  I found it very informative, includes modifying the T0-5 trigger.  Its worth a look.  I haven't done any modifying on my RWS rifles tho.

The rifle shown on this website does not have a T05 trigger. The T05 comes with only 1 adjusting screw. But thanks for trying.

You know Gerry,...I've been thinking about this post/thread,...And I still believe it's the difference in trigger finger angle on the blade at release , and the grip of the stock that makes one think the trigger is heavier or lighter. For instance, point your finger straight down towards the floor and pull a kitchen cabenet drawer open. Now with your palm facing the floor, hook your finger and pull the drawer open just by squeezing your finger. Doesn't feel as hard to open does it? That's my theory. The T-05 could be better,...but it is, what it is. tjk

The factory trigger uses a pin for the first stage movement instead of an adjustment screw. When you adjust the screw you are simply changing when the second stage kicks in. This also changes the angles a bit and therefore has the effect of feeling like it is changing the pull force required, especially when the trigger is adjusted for a very long first stage - the pin is essentially staying in contact with the seer up until the seer is almost disengaged before the set screw takes over for the second stage.

When I make my brass replacement trigger blade I plan to use two adjustment screws. I doubt that I will go to the trouble of using ball bearing tipped screws though, at least to start with. You could very easily remove the first stage pin and get a trigger adjustment replacement screw from Umarex and drill and tap the trigger blade for the new 1st stage screw. This would give you a true two stage trigger with full adjustment.

All you have to do is soften the lever spring alittle, no amount of turning the screw is gonna do what you want, also polishing the parts will help and softing the two return springs will help alittle!

How old is your rifle? the T05 triggers didnt start coming out untill 02 or 03 in the RWS guns so if your rifle is an 03 or newer it probly has the T05 in it!
