New & Curious
« on: November 17, 2009, 08:05:57 AM »
Hi Folks, I'm not only new to this site but new to airguns as well so I'm full of...questions.
These PCP shooters have caught my attention. I've noticed they require dry filtered air only so is there a special pump for filling them & how many shots do ya average per fill?

Welcome

Yes there is a special pump needed

The Hill pump has been regarded as the best one, and this place has it for the lowest price.

And this article will tell you most everything you need to know about PCP's and the air for them.

If you are seriously interested in a PCP, I would suggest starting with a Discovery. Made in either a .177 or .22. Low air fill and allot of shots between pumping if you decide on a pump. The Discovery is about the cheapest PCP you can purchase to date. I think Pyramid sells them for under $300.00 now without the pump.

Most of us here started with springers and have graduated to the PCP's..:) But it does not matter where you start but just having fun is the best part. Lots of relaxing hours spent shooting at targets etc..

Best of luck.

Thanks for response. I'm not yet serious but rather in research mode. The PCP caught my interest but like I said, this is research at this point. I try to look before I leap.

I'll second the discovery as a first PCP as it's my first and certainly not going to be my last one.

The low fill pressure makes it easy to pump.

FedTactical actually has it for a touch over $300 with a pump.

Since the guys above have answered the pump question....I'll just give you an average amount of shots per fill; DEPENDS on the PCP rifle!!!!.....from 5 hard hitting shots to over 100 shots on low power on some brands/models of PCP rifles.  For example....the big bores.... .50 Dragon Slayers or something like that....will only give you 3 or 5 VERY HARD shots....they're heavily modified airguns giving over 80FPE (foot pound energy), while if you just want to punch paper.....my .177 FX Cyclone on low power can give me 80+ good shots out to 30 meters before the pellets start to lose speed.  I've seen some ads for PCP's where they claim to give over 100 high power shots.....
Gamo: Expotec .177 + Big Cat .177 + Viper .177 + Whisper .177, Hammerli Titan .177, Diana model 24 .177, RWS-Diana P5 Magnum pistol .177, Crosman: G1 Extreme .177 + Storm XT .177 + Sierra Pro .177 + 1377 pistol .177, Air Arms S410SL .22, BSA Scorpion T10 .22, FX Cyclone .177, Remington Air Master 77 .177 + BB\'s,

Thanks guys, you've given me a good idea of what to expect and that discovery looks interesting for entry level which is where I am.
