Another question
« on: November 18, 2009, 03:01:16 AM »
I'm wondering what amount of effort it takes to fill a discovery sense that is one of the easier guns to fill from what I gather. I'm talking with a pump.
I'm concerned the PCP may not work out for me if it takes much effort to fill because I'm physically impaired. I can handle some effort I think but it just depends. I may just have to stick with the springers. I'm interested in something with a reasonable amount of speed and power but hopefully not too heavy either. It could be rather burdensome to carry around if it's heavy.

I have gone to PCP rifles due to shoulder and tendon problems that made cocking the springers a chore. Checked first on using a pump. Since I can use the upper body and bending to pump it is easy to do and doesn't stress the shoulders/tendons the same as the springers do.

I really like shooting a rifle with a magazine. I purchased an Evanix Blizzard, used, from one of the members on this site. A really nice rifle. I get 40 shots before having to pump again. It is death to pigeons and blackbirds and raccoons. Past the time for ground squirrils or I would add them to the list.

It is quiet. A lot quieter than the Walther Falcon Hunter I was using. A lot quieter than my friends Diana Model 48 or anothers Tech Force 89. No recoil or kick at all. Very smooth to shoot and the magazine with ten shots makes follow up shots a lot easier than having to load one pellet at a time.

Try a bicycle pump and see if the motion bothers you. If not you can probably do the high pressure pump OK. It will be a lot more effort in comparison, but not difficult. I pump to 3000 pounds and it is not difficult for me. 5'6" and 140 pounds.

I am looking at the renting of a welding style tank with nitrogen for fills. In our area it isn't too much and will be easier to work with when at home. Still use the pump when traveling.

Good luck whichever way you go. One of these days I will end up with an FX Revolution so I can put the hurt on blackbirds a lot quicker.

I pump my B50 and 909 sometimes. I use the tank to bulk fill to about 2,000 and then pump the rest of the way to 3,000 psi. You can bend at the knees on the down stroke and use your weight to assist in pumping.
