keep it under 50yds and you will have your kill shot at 20 to 35 is just fine with a .177 it will bring it down use domed or preditors and u will see the difference,a 22 is basically a more power cal but the 177 will go a little futher cause of the weight u use...many good rifle r always for sale in this classified or u could trade ...good luck jay i always

See the Talon SS - Package just below this thread.  This gun can take everything from tree rats to 100 lb pigs.  It also comes with lots of helpful accessories, including 2 barrels, LDC, scope, and bipod.

Honestly send you 220 to Gene for a turbo tune and trigger. If your gun is running right it should have 6-8 fpe @ 50 yards which is enough to dispatch furry tailed rats. Quality glass like the hawke airmax 4-12x40 map6 reticle. You would have a deadly combo. Just about every gun I have is .22 I only have 1 springer I'd shoot that far. IMO to get .22 to shoot flat enough to retain the energy @ 50 yards you should be above 800 fps. I've done it @ 40 yards w/650 fps but you got to be spot on.
Jason
A couple of Springers nothin to get excited about.

In my hands, there is no springer that is adequate out past 40 yards.  If it's powerful enough to do the job, I can't shoot it well enough, and if I can shoot it that far, it's not powerful enough.  That's why I switched to PCP's ;-).  Sounds to me like your assessment of the 220 is also a realistic assessment of your own abilities, so kudos to you.

If you want to stay with a springer, I'd say your best plan is working on your stalking skills, try to get close enough that you feel confident in your ability to make the shot.  If you're ready to make the jump to the Dark Side, a good .177 PCP can easily do what you want.  The combination of higher velocity with heavier pellets, and zero recoil, makes 50 yard shots very doable.  A lot of the .177 PCP's are in the 20+ fpe range, and pin point accurate out to 50 yards or more.  AND you can get a repeater, so fast second shots are now a reality.  Going up to .22 stretches your realistic range on squirrels to 70 yards, maybe more depending on the rifle and your skills.  Of course, they also are more expensive to shoot.  There are a fair number of decent guns at around $500 available now, the Marauder is the one getting all the press right now, but there are a fair number of other choices.  And if you go used, you can find even more choices.  Down side, you've got to fill them, and that can add up quickly.  For more info on that, check out this post: http://www.gatewaytoairguns.com/airguns/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=19477&mid=156556#M156556  Lots of good info, if I do say so myself :-).  Hope that helps, and good luck.  Later.

Dave

PS Just realized this is the Classifieds, so I PM'd you on a rifle :-).

I'd seriously look at the B25 with the 3-9x40 scope for $139.99 at bestairgun.com

I love mine and the scope is actually quite good.

i also have a lubed and re-sealed .22 cal walther talon mag that shoots 925 fps w/ 15 gr pellets.    it has a range of about 55 yards before it really begins to drop.   it's the most powerful gun i have - 27 ftlbs.

See if a good RWS 48 or 52 turns up. They will do the job.
