Gamo Hunter Sport Questions
« on: December 17, 2009, 06:12:22 AM »
Hey Guys, I'm really glad I found this form.  From what I’ve seen so far, there’s a lot I can learn from reading here.

I used to have all kinds of air guns when I was younger, but recently at 27 I’ve have had the itch to start shooting air rifles again.  After doing a little research I ended up choosing a Gamo Hunter Sport.  I’ve put around 150 rounds through of CPHP and 20 rounds of those gold Gamo 1200 fps pellets. I really like the Crossman’s and get consistent grouping with them, plus I love how the tear apart going through things.

Anyway, I mounted the scope with blue lock tight and sighted it.  The problem I’m having is I think the scope gets out of whack every couple of shots.  Everything on the scope and mount is tight.  Is it normal for these BSA 3-9x40 Gamo scopes to go bad so soon?  This thing appears to not hold zero for its life, any help?

I’ll be checking the stock screws when I go home to see if their loose.

I already ordered the Gold trigger.

One more thing, what do you guys like better, nitro piston or better spring?

Thanks Guys,
Eric

yeah, typical gamo scope... invest in a decent leapers and yes! by god!, get a venturi gasram. My whisper is transformed  with it. And the trigger is also a necessity. not a want. you will not recognize your rifle after those 2 mods.

Also ...do not shoot thoes light pellets in your gun...they will damage the seals and tear up your gun. Sort of like dry firing a bow with no arrow.

Eric,
Welcome.

Good start, the "Tuna Trigger" is a must !!!!

To use the gun it as is, or get a tune, or install a gas spring, before you decide, I suggest you do a search on here and read all you can about each choice, so you'll know all about the details good and bad of each, and what's best for your intended use. Like Lillysdad and a few others, I put an Air Venturi gas spring in my 22 Whisper. I love it, but it's not everyones idea of how to go.

If your Gamo scope is not holding zero, your not alone. Many others have had to replace the Gamo scope too.  They don't seem to last long. Good news is there are many choices  for better ones.

Yeah, the Rapors  are fast, but good luck hitting anything with them !!!! When I chrony-ed them in my gun they had the widest speed variation and worst groups of any of the pellets I've tried. They also are rather inconsistant in how snuggly they load into the gun. I haven't measured them with a micrometer, but all that suggests to me they are not made as accuratly as other pellets.

No two guns being alike, you may want to save some bucks by getting a "pellet sampler" pack to help find what pellets work best in your gun.

Yea i don't use those pellets at all.  I would like to get a upgraded spring and tune at some point.  I spent some time with the scope last night, it may be ok but won't know till i do some farthur shooting.
