Found a place to do 4500 psi fills!
« on: January 26, 2010, 11:25:27 AM »
I finally got around to calling Airgas West in Serra Mesa and they told me they don't handle the the SCBA tanks.  But..they gave me the number of a place called Marine Services down in Chula Vista.

So I gave them a call and after getting the deer in the headlights from the office person I got on the phone with a tech.  I was very clear about Scott or similar CF SCBA tanks rated at 4500 psi.  He said "no problem".  They charge $15 for hydros and $5 for fills.  And I clarified - full 4500 psi fills?  And he said YES!

I of course don't have an SCBA tank at the moment but this might help my decision now that it sounds like there is a solid place.  If one of you has one you should give it a shot some time and see how it goes.  Now my quest for cheap tanks begins - with all due respect to Joe Brancato I just can't pay his prices.

I saw that!  I emailed the guy and asked him for contact info, esp for the fill apparatus.  Perhaps this Marine Services place has a line on tanks too.  I'm considering trading my Diana 34 for a 44 CF 4500 tank with about 6.5 years left on its life.  I think he'll throw in the SCBA adapter with the 1/4" NPT thread.  By my calculation a 44 CF tank at 4500 psi provides the same amount of fills as a 80 CF high pressure scuba (3442 psi).

What do you guys think???  I just having a hard time getting any takers on the Diana at $170 and this seemed somewhat equitable.

Not yet - I've gotten offers at $160 so not a huge delta but I like holding out.  The Dianas just don't hold value though.  I figure the CF tank has fairly equivalent value and he's throwing in the SCBA to 1/4 NPT adapter so that saves me a $30 part or so.  I think I'd just need a T assembly, gauge, hose and bleeder block.
