Peep sight on benji...
« on: December 22, 2009, 05:03:14 AM »
My dad let me shoot my gun finally, It shoots high as many of them do with the peep. Anyone now if there is a picture or something to show me where i need to file the sight? Thanks. BTW i am very impressed, shoots great groups just in the wrong spot....Also, what pellets are you guys getting the best groups with, I'm a big fan of kodiaks, but these may be to heavy in the benji, Ik many of you reccomend crosman premiers in the box, maybe i'll give those a try. I would like to shoot heavier pellets if possible. Maybe some jsb heavies? Not sure, Anyway what pellets give you guys good groups? Just looking for a place to start.

Check this thread on the Crosman forum....

Down toward the end is an example of filing down the bottom of the peep. I avoided the issue all together by deciding to just keep the factory rear sight and not get the peep.

How many pumps are you using? You might try using fewer pumps to get you point of impact lower, at least until you get time to do any tweaking of the sight.

One of the things a pumper has over a springer is that heavy pellets will not hurt the pumper. I haven't tried Kodiacs. I know my 392 really like RWS Superdomes (I know they are not heavy). Superpoints too and even the cheap Daisy wadcutters from Wal-Mart. Just got some 15.8 grain JSB's but haven't had the chance to really try them out. I've heard they are supposed to be good in a Benji. I know the JSB's in .20 are awesome in my Sheridan, so I'm hoping for the same effect in my 392.

I just bought one of these the day before yesterday, truly classic little guns.  I have been looking to buy the peep sight for mine, but have also been reading that these don't work all that well(for reasons you already mentioned).  I have only shot mine in my garage, so I have no pellet suggestions since groups at 5 yards with open sights from pellet to pellet pretty much look the same.  I've been shooting old school Crosman cheapo wadcutters through mine, mainly because I have a tin sitting on my bench.  Is it just me, or do these things beat the heck out of your left hand while pumping?  I might try putting a piece of velcro loop tape under the pump arm for a more cushiony closing, the little rubber deal doesn't eem to do anything that I can tell.  Have fun with your Benji!

Mine also likes the cheapy daisy wadcutters. I've only shot groups at twenty yards with them, but they are in a group the size of a penny. I don't have a clue why it would shoot them straight, as they are some of the worst pellets when it comes to uniformity. I wish i could use the factory rear sight, but my eyes are not the best. I think i may have to scope the gun, because i know this gun is capable of better accuracy. Pumping is not an issue because this is going to be a hunting gun. I need accuracy more than i need ease of use. Although with the  peep sight i would be able to make headshots with ease out to twenty yards.

I like the factory rear sight because it is far enough forward not to be blurry for me and my eyes, but any more than 15 yards and the target is too blurry for me to see!  :)  Man I love scopes!!!!

There is a little trick that you can do with the valve that will GREATLY reduce the pumping effort. My left shoulder would ache after 20 shots before I did the mod. Now the Benji pumps as easy as a Crosman 2100.

Thanks for the help guys, and Merry Christmas..I grinded the heck out of my peep sight. Dead on now, I have nothing bad to say about this gun at all. Very, Very accurate. Far surpasses my springers, and my expectations...
