Major malfunction,,, need help.
« on: December 30, 2009, 09:36:40 AM »

I'll try ta keep it short and sweet.. My Air Arms S400FAC .22 Has never shot a group better than 2" at 15 yards.. It ghas a lothar walther 12 twist match barrel and should 1 hole at this distance. I have jacked with it , the scopes, the pellets, and everything I can think of.. Soo I went and bought a TKO break for it.. It still did the same thing but much quieter.. After jacking with it for about 25 rounds I pull the TKO off and all kinds of shavings fall out of the break... ITS NOT HITTING THE BRAKE... The shavings are comming out of the factory gun and just ending up in the break... The bun comes standard with a shrouded barrel and the end of the lothar walther is about 5 inches inside the shroud. Could it be hitting inside somewhere.. I did the unthinkable, and opened the bolt, put it on safty, took a flashlight to the loading port and peered down the end of the barrel.. It looks superb and nice 12 twister down in there but I cant see or get to the crown.. Who could fix this gun? Who would know what to do with her... I have a lot of money invested in her with both stocks ,,1 walnut and 1 custom painted camo stock...

All help is greatly apreciated..

Thanks Randall

i am not familiar with aa but let's analyze some data here to try and figure out where to start looking.  first....are the shavings you found in the muzzle brake ferrous or non-ferrous?...stick a magnet to them and see if they stick to it.  if they don't, then we are looking for something make of aluminum.  if they do, then we're looking for something made of steel....its a start.  have you cleaned the barrel?...could these be shavings from when the barrel was being rifled and didn't get cleaned at the factory?  does the shroud come off the barrel so you can inspect the crown?

Its lead Roger.. They are clippin somewhere in the gun and shacing off curly Q's and being deposited in the brake.. Its a wierd deal.. I think factory defect and since I bought it second hand I need someone with expertize to fix it...

taking a wild guess here.....but you may have a "hang-nail" on the barrel crown.  you need someone to tell you how to remove the shroud.  i don't know how to do that.

The greater likelihood is that the pellets are clipping a baffle, or baffles in the shroud, It my be simple misalignment or the baffles may need to be opened up a bit.

It should simply unscrew ( strap wrench), then you have a small sleeve which in your case likely has bad o-rings, replace these. If you got lucky you didnt trash the baffles and if adding a TKO that wouldnt matter too much as long as they are blow out of the way so to   speak.
For parts or service I would call the importer at
http://topgun-airguns.com/

"I" dont see any way you could mess it up yourself so maybe give it a try before shipping it off somewhere, you'll save a lot of pellet money doing it yourself.
