Barksa Air Rifle Scopes
« on: March 30, 2007, 03:25:55 AM »
I have two Barska Air Rifle Scopes.  One is a 4X mildot, and the other is the 2X7X32 mildot.  I bought them both from MidwayUSA.  They both have been fine scopes.  I have had no problem with shifting poi.  The optics are clear, the AO is accurate, and the adjustment mechanism works properly in my scopes.  I did have one that had the small phillips screw come loose that holds the finger adjusting mechanism for the elevation turrent.  I tightened it with jewelers screwdriver and it has been fine ever since.  For those looking for an inexpensive airgun rated scope, I would check out the Barska line.  BTW I mount all my airgun scopes using B-Square Air Sport Rings and have had no slippage problems with them.  Don't overtighten them as the cap screw heads can round out if over done.

My 3-12x40 won't hold POI on either my FWB124 or RWS 350M. Pretty useless. A/B tested against Bushnell Trophy, which held rock steady.

I had one (Barska 3-12x40 airgun scope) on my B40 and it would not hold a zero either. I switched to a Leapers.

Which Leapers did you get and how do you like it so far?  I looked through a few Leapers scopes (not airgun scopes)  at the local Gun Show and was pretty impressed with the clairity of the optics. I am considering a higher power scope for my Gamo down the road and like to check out all the options.

Thanks

I got the Leapers 3-9x40 and so far I like it.  I expect it'll hold up, but I will wait until I get a thousand rounds or so thru it.  The clarity is better than the Barska.  I still need to check the mil-dot reticle calibration to see if it corresponds with what the Chairgun program spits out (the Barska did and the dots look closer together than the Leapers).  I think the illuminated reticle might come in handy at times, because sometimes the Barska scope reticles blended in with the black silhouettes and couldn't be seen.

I got the 4-16x56 Leapers, and it's been a good scope. Optics are pretty good.

Illuminated reticle is useful for shooting at dusk [I'm going outside for a few minutes, honey...]

I like them better than the 2 N/S 6-24x56 scopes I've had, each having to be replaced, having to wait 10 weeks for a replacement for one of them.

I was looking for one more scope, and just ordered the Leapers 3x9x32 AO MIldot from Pyramid.  They are only a few miles up the road from me, so I should have it in a day or two.  I kind of like the smaller objectives on my air rifles.  I read Tom Gaylords test of the Leapers and it was pretty impressive.  Time and many shots will tell.  I always buy Butler Creek flip ups for my scopes and this scope comes with them already.  Making it cost $29.00 in air gun bucks.  Got the one piece Accushot mount to go with it.  If my Gamo was made in Asia, it should be named "Spring Twang Boing"  Hopefully this scope and mount will hold up well on it.  BTW the 10% discount code in Bargian Gate still works as of April 1st.  I will be moving my 4X Barska over to my 10/22.  It has been a great scope, but I'm needing a bit more power on the air rifle for my 75yd swingers.

I have a 3-12X50 which holds zero like a pit bull. It's nice and clear but I think
that the magnification is overstated. It looks more like 2-9X.
Another annoying thing is that it will not focus on anything closer than about
14 yards. This can be a problem when hunting in the woods, critters often show
up at that 10 yard range, leaving you to choose between a blurry critter or a blurry
cross hair... I replaced it with a Leapers 3-9X50 on my RWS350. The 350 has since
destroyed the leapers, so the Barska is back on it for now.
for the price, not a bad scope.
