dry firing piston rifles?

I know we are not supposed to shoot springers without pellets in them. Not even with really light pellets.

What about piston rifles? Like the NPSS? Am thinking something like this might be a lot of fun in the garden this
summer blasting grasshoppers and caterpillars to bits with a blast of air. If it doesn't hurt the rifle it could be fun.

Well, there might be no main spring to break but the piston seal might still slam into the front end of the air chamber.  Don't know if that's true or not though.

Stanley is right, it won't hurt the ram/piston but it is a bit hard on the seal and very hard on any scope that is mounted on the gun.
