Does your CFX rotary trap have a lot of play?
« on: January 31, 2010, 10:41:11 AM »
Fellow on the Yellow's Gamo forum asked about this. His gun shoots in the 800's with the tap pushed forward against the barrel. If pulled back after cocking (he says there is about 1/16" play), it's about 50 - 75 fps slower. He posted a You tube video of it and the trap is covered in black grease on the front and back. Said he accidentally shot it with the trap open a time or two and that was the lube expelled. I haven't had my .22 out for a bit, but is this normal? His tap rolls smoothly and with tension. Told him to make sure it was pushed forward and he ought to be good to go. Of course, if that much play is abnormal, I'll tell him. Just can't link him here, being it's the Yellow and all.

There is no play in the trap on my .22 CFX and I'm wondering about the lube coming out there. :o That's in front of the piston and I'm wondering if lube is migrating to the front of the piston seal. He may have damaged the piston seal some and the lube is getting by and up around the rotary trap. The O-rings might be damaged as well. Ed

You see the video? More than a little gummy, no? I think he said it "jetted out". Would have had to blow past the back ring. And, if that isn't moly, just how much lube/grease did Gamo fill it with?

Didn't see the vid but any kind of lube jetting out there doesn't sound good and sure sounds like all that "bad" lube as migrated up in front of the piston. :0 Might be time for a tune up. Ed
