BENJAMIN TRAIL NP XL
« on: February 12, 2010, 09:36:01 AM »
Just joined the forum today. Had a discussion with charlie on the grt III trigger for the new Benjamin Trail NP Xl. I sent him pictures of the trigger and he verified it was the gamo trigger (same trigger as in the Benjamin super streak) So the GRT III will work in the new trail np's. I just got the gun two days ago. It's not broken in yet, but It is shooting approx 28 fpe with JSB jumbo heavies. Can't say much on accuracy until I get the new trigger. The trigger that comes with it !sucks! The gun is a smooth shooter and quiet. Will keep everyone poisted when I install the trigger.

Welcome Ron,

Thanks for posting that.  28fpe with and 18.2gr pellet must put that about 835 fps. Impressive for a gas ram.

There's a few of us with questions about those Trail series Bengi's.

How hard is it to cock?

Noise level?

Paul.

Yep... he's got one. It's the Trail XL. Also, it has been determined the the Benjanin Trail series will use the GRT-III trigger.

So, does that mean the Super Streak can be upgraded with the Nitro Piston gas ram?

According to Crosman, it is a super streak with a gas piston, two main differences: first new gas ram, second newer barrel with full shroud, same stock, trigger, cocking mechinism. It is quieter and has very little recoil for 28 fpe. Also very easy to cock. It also takes awhile to burn off all the chinese oil in it.(hope there are no harmful contaminates in the oil, because it sure smokes for the first 20 or so pellets)

Hell, I'd break it down and clean out all the oil, deburr it and then moly paste the seal so there's no more need to oil it anymore.

Where did you get your trail at, nobody has them is stock yet I wish I had your conections please keep us posted about this rifle. I'm holding off buying a Marauder wating for some #'s to come in on this rifle, and  realy want how accurate it is so if you can post some groups with it stock then with the GRT III trigger in it that would be very helpfull for those of us that are trying to decide whether or not to get this one!

Just installed the grt III trigger, worked like a charm. Anyone know the tear down procedure for the trail np's yet or maybe the super streak, wanna clean out the oil and relace with moly like was suggested to me in earlier thread.

You'd need a spring compressor.  Breaking it down should be similar to breaking down a Gamo Whisper.  Compress the piston, tap out the backplate retaining pin, back out the compressor so you relieve the pressure in the gas ram, remove gas ram, remove trigger assembly, DEBURR the punched holes in the receiver tube before removing the piston and seal, so it doesn't get cut up on the way out.  Clean out the metal shavings, remove the piston and seal, lube with moly paste and reinstall everything in opposite order minus the deburring part.  That's it.  Should take about an hour.

Oh, you might need to remove the scope too, because the mounts usually have a set screw that goes into the hole on top of the receiver tube between the dovetails.  Deburr that hole too.

I'm also interested in where you obtained an NP Trail XL. Pyramid and the other online retailers still show they are not available yet.

After reading up a little, I think I will go for the "regular" Benji NPSS. The Trail XL versions are showing 9 lbs weight and I just don't need the extra 50 fps or so that badly. I think the lighter .22 is the way I will go. Still, I was hoping to compare reviews from people who've shot both.

I am sure interested in a .25 but I think I would rather let the Marauder PCP move that much lead. A leave-it-cocked, self-contained .22 piston will fill the hole in my arsenal nicely.
