NPSS Question
« on: February 20, 2010, 12:52:06 PM »
I just have a question.......

Is there any difference between the Crosman NPSS and the Remington NPSS  ????   Is it just a name change or are there actual parts or structural differences between them ????

Thanks....

Jeff

Yeah, you know me pretty well buddy  :)

My finger has been twitchin over the "buy" button all day  :)

I still have to buy my birthday present and I'm looking hard at the NPSS...   I don't own a gas ram in my arsenal and I was shooting one at Cobra Airguns today and I have to tell you it was sweeeeeeet  :)

The one I was shooting was .177 but I'm leaning towards the .22 myself...

I e-mailed the folks at Crosman and asked if the Remington NPSS was just the Crosman NPSS with a new name. They said "yes".  By the way I've got a Crosman .22 NPSS listed over on the classifieds.  Save you about a hundred buck!

Actually I have been a little frustrated trying to sort all the "NPSS" models out. The Crosman site is very sketchy on details and specifications, and has no "Compare" feature. Pyramid does have a Compare, but it is only as good as the people who fill out the form. In any case... I lined up the Benjamin Trail NP (wood), the Remingon NPSS "Short Stroke", the Benjamin Trail NP combo (synth), and the Trail NP XL. There are some confusing differences.

The NP XL is a different beast. It is made in Chine (I don't care) but obviously has significantly more power and weighs quite a bit more (over 9 lbs). That one is at least separate from the pack. I just don't want one that heavy.

The other 3 are nominally the same, but have someodd differences, according to the Pyramid compare function.

Ben Trail NP Wood has velocity of 950, weight of 6.65, length of 43", trigger adj. and safety are blank.

Ben Trail NP Synth combo has same specs, but weighs in at 8 lbs. with a Centerpoint 3 x 9 AO. It seems like the best deal if you want the glass, but can a Centerpoint add almost 2 lbs? I have several and they are heavy but I don't think that much.

Remington shows velocity of 1000, weight of 7 lbs., length of 43.97", trigger is two-stage adjustable, safety is manual. It is the only one to use the "short stroke" nomenclature.

The Remingtons don't have a hardwood option, but have the digital camo versions. Benjamins have either wood or plain black "all weather" synthetic.

I may be overthinking this, but as my finger hovers over Buy, I guess I would like some of that cleared up. The differences may be minor but they are different.

Steroid Sheridan rocker, Daisy 990, SS1000, B26-2, QB-57, Crosman 150 (TW), Crosman 1377 x 2,  RWS5G, MP513, IZH53, RWS9N/Cometa, MP661k Drozd, Walther Falcon Hunter, RWS 34 Panther, XS-B3-1, Cummins B3s, RWS94 Cometa x 2, RWS48, Beeman R7, Daisy Avanti 853, RWS92 Cometa 220, Beeman P3, IZH-46M x 2, Daisy Avanti 747, Diana 24, B5-10, BSA Lightning .22, Crosman Marauder #39 .22, Crosman 1322 Phase 1, Diana Model 20, HW70, Shin Sung Dragon Slayer .50, Haenel Model 26, Slavia 620, HW45/.177

I sure understand your delima Dave. I think mostly that the retailers do not have the right info. Basically I think the Ben Trail NP wood and synth have exactly the same action. Same goes for the Remington. Only exceptions would be the scope. Centerpoint and Leapers are heavy scopes though. But all in all it is who fills out the descriptions and specs. Like when you tell someone a story. And he tells ths story to someone else. It changes each time someone repeats it...:) The Crosman NPSS and Remington share the same action and trigger and useBob's CBR trigger if you wanted to upgrade it. The Benji Trail seriesNP's are different and allwould use the GRT-III trigger upgrade.

I narrowed it down to synthetic or wood. Since I will be shooting it alot I chose to buy the synthetic. I also like the laminant stock they are coming out with as well.

Dave, that's exactly how I feel.  I never thought to use the "compare" application on PA, that was a good idea....

I would just like to definitively know the differences, if any, between all the models before I hit the buy button.

BO, I'll be looking for your "pm"

Eric,,,, I have a question....

As a NPSS owner  what would you recommend as far as caliber ??  I'm torn between the .177 and the .22

What kind of fps are you getting with the .177 NPSS of  yours.  I want to get one for hunting but I'm concerned the .22 cal "real world" fps #'s are gonna be a bit low...  however if the .177 #'s are good I'm thinking of going with the .177.   I would value your opinion.  I was shooting a .177 yesterday at Cobra Airguns and I must say that rifle was "screaming" those pellets down range but I don't know if it's a fluke for that gun or the majority of the NPSS .177's will shoot like that.....

Also,, overall how satisfied are you with the rifle ???

thanks...
